Hey guys, This is my first post in a section other than in the sales forum. I had a great experience with the Spyderco warranty department and wanted to share it in case it could help anyone out in the future and figured it would be a good introductory post for me. I have been lurking for a while and figured it was about time I start participating given all the great information I have gotten here in the past few months. Anyways, here is a post I made in the Spyderco forums, I figured I would just copy and paste it here. Sorry if its a little long...
"Let me just start by saying hello! I'm Tom, and I've been lurking around here for a while and this is my first post. I've carried a Spyderco for the 15 or so years. First was a Delica I got when I was 12 or 13, then an Endura while I was in Coast Guard until about 2 months ago when I started my little collection. I now have a coupe PM2s, an Endura, a Delica and a Dragonfly and I see many more in my future!
This started when I got a NIB camo/satin PM2 from someone over at BF. When I got the knife I noticed that it didn't open or close nearly as smooth as the black/satin one I already had. That was an easy fix with just loosening the pivot a touch. However, when you pressed the compression lock to close the knife it took a substantial amount of pressure to disengage it, so much so that after repeated closings I would develop a hot spot on my finger. Also once the lock was disengaged you would hear a "click", almost as if there was a burr or the part of the blade that came in contact with the lock was not finished properly. I in no way blamed the seller for this because when I informed him of it he said he would take it back no problem and refund my money but I figured I would give the Warranty department a shot.
After giving them a call and leaving a message I got a call back a couple days later from Charlene. I explained the issue to her and she said it sounded like a warranty issue and to send the knife in, no return postage necessary. Fast forward about 4 and half weeks later with no word from Spyderco I called and left another message after business hours on Tuesday. However, the next day the UPS man brought me a package postmarked from Golden, Colorado. YES!! The knife is now perfect and I couldn't be happier. So if you are reading this Charlene, please disregard my voicemail, lol.
All in all it was a really great experience and its nice to know that a company stands behind their products so well. One thing I want to point out, and I'm not complaining, is I'm pretty sure they gave me a completely new knife or changed the scales. After comparing a photo from the original seller to the knife now the camo pattern on the scales is different. Now the letter that came with the knife was just a generic form letter stating something to the effect of: "Enclosed is the following knife or knives which have been sharpened and/or reconditioned to the best of our capability. We are happy to see that your knives have been put to good use." But like I said I am not complaining, just the opposite in fact, because the original pattern was almost completely tan with literally only a handful of green and brown squares on both sides. I like the new one A LOT better.
Sorry for rambling but I'm just super excited to have this one back and in my rotation. Thanks again Sal, Charlene and everyone at Spyderco. You guys are awesome!"
