Anyone know what this show is like? I just found out about it and the best part is that I am going to be in Las Vegas at the same time. I almost fell off my chair when I read the dates. I have only been to a few local gun shows, so this is a big deal. I hope it is as good as the name implies. It is in Las vegas, so it has to be good, right? Any info would be great.

Thanks,
Rich

PS I do not think that my girlfriend will believe me when I tell her that this is just coincidence(sp?).

Take some walking shoes. The ones in San Diego and Los Angeles are big shows. Plan on spending 3-5 hours at the minimum.

The Great Western Gun Show is in Las Vegas this year for reasons best discussed in the "Politics" forum. It was in Los Angeles County, CA, for many many years, spring and fall and winter, as a huge event, with guns and gun-related stuff and "military" and "western" and "survival" and "miscellaneous-other" stuff and . . . making it relevant here - knives.

In recent years the custom knife contingent had shrunk significantly, and there was a lot more "other stuff" and "flea market stuff" than there was guns.

Now that it's in a smaller population center, and will depend more on people who have travelled "out of town" to get there, I would guess that the product mix will change. It had been awkward to buy a gun at a gun show in California, with having to go to the dealer two weeks later to pick up the gun, and now CA customers are looking at interstate sales restrictions instead. As for knives, people may not want to fly to Las Vegas to buy a handfull of $5 PRC Spydie-Clones.

I was really hoping that it would be a good knife show. I figured that there would be a few good dealers or makers there. I am not sure I will go if it is mainly guns and that type of thing. I am not really looking to buy guns just knives. Oh well.

I haven't been to a Great Western Gun Show for a few years, but when I last went, there were a few dealers who had quality knives. I don't remember seeing more than one or two custom makers at the events, but was not quite as into knives then. I do remember some decent prices on Spydies and BM's. About 9-10 years ago went with an aquintance who purchased two watches worth over $800 each for a total of $200. The dealer wasn't familiar with the brand (which I don't remember, not being that interested). Bought my first Endura there for $30.

One thing to remember, when it was in Pomona, it was HUGE a mere 3-5 hours would get you inside each building for a quick perusal, If all you're interested in is the knives there, it should be sufficient. But I always made a day out of it.
