Yes, in my scale this knife is the greatest hunting knife designed- Bob Loveless 4 inch Drop Point Hunter. I was in love with Loveless for many years even though I never handle one, never seen one from my own eyes, but just fell in love with the design, and practicality of the concept. Most practical knife ever designed.
This is where I really proud to be a Blade Forum member as I get to know knifemaker like Marcus Lin. Marcus is recognized as FLATGRINDER here. I was introduced to him by buying a A2 Bushcraft knife from him. From there, we realized we have similar taste in knife. Than I came to know that Marcus's favorite knifemaker just happens to be my favorite maker too. Decided to get him one drop point hunter made for me. In my surprise, I had no idea that Marcus's is craftsmanship could be that extreme level.
After getting it on my mail yesterday, first thing I noticed is that my throat is very dry. I realized that my jaws were open more than 20 seconds, that's a long time in Colorado's 2% humidity zone. Now, for a guy like me who has knives from the topest brand in the world in all kinds of design with value enough to buy a BMW convertible is not that easy to give that kind of shock to me. My idea of a superior craftsmanship has just been changed.
Marcus made this drop point hunter to my requirement. I like green canvas micarta, was not aware that Loveless's also favorite material, with red liners, and D2 steel. My best choice for hunting steel as at very high RC this steel behaves extremely well. It has a toothier edge that lasts forever. Even after skinning 10 Buffalo with a quarter of inch thickness, Marcus's 61RC will keep on going. D2 don't get dull, it just gets toothier. Light stropping on DMT Diamond paste on leather gives the edge it's smoothness again. Also this steel is ruthless on wood also. I would not know about this, but after using two Dozier models, I know this as a fact. Sheath is also over built, and extremely heavy duty. The leather is as thick as the knife steel, and stitching is rock solid. As Bob said, if used properly his knife will give service to 300 years. Because of Marcus's overbuilt workmanship, I'll be able to leave this knife for my grandson.
That mirror finish is more than just a mirror finish. It's extremely fine polished. The process takes 60 - 120 - 220 - 320 - 400 - 600 - 800 - 15micron - stainless steel compound - green chrome compound = Loveless mirror finish.
After owning this knife, before I loved Loveless knife, now I just have great respect for his contribution to the knife world. Now, I know why his knives are THE MOST EXPENSIVE UNDECORATED KNIFE IN THE WORLD. His made steel priced more than Gold.
Marcus's service is beyond my expectation. He is extremely responsive to his client, even though I am more than a client to him. He is very fast when comes to lead time and fastest shipper you'll ever face. Enjoy the pics as knife progresses to a absolute beauty. I can't wait to test this on an at least 1000 lbs Bull
