This is a fine artical in the November Blade.
I believe the time we live in to be the golden age of knife making because of our modern methods, machines and materials. The quality of the blades produced today far exceeds anything in the past.
I don't believe that makes us the greatest knifemakers ever, only the most fortunate, to have lived in this period of time. I have the greatest admiration for makers, in the long history of edged weaponry, that did it the hard way, with the most basic of tools. Fred

Maybe thats an underpinning of tribal/primitive knifemaking. Guilt for being so lucky

Thank you Fred: It is nice to hear when readers like what they read.
We all have our desires and our acompolishments, but nothing compares to the dreams of the maker of his first knife.

We are so lucky . Think of the advancements in our lives. They are many.

I don't even remember where I hid my first knife and have no intention of looking for it.

When I look back at my first knife, I can see it truly was the mother of all knives to follow. While poorly crafted, the guard upside down, no real shaping to fit the hand, just sharp edges, still the inspiration was there, for then I was free to make my knife. Later traditions influenced me, then she was born again.
