I'm surprised no one has posted sooner !

I just want to say thanks to kevin for being a great host--I know I gave you a bit of a hard time, it was all in fun ( next time..I'll bring scotch)
Great meeting all of you that were there. I'm still mulling over ideas that everyone kicked around.

I'm looking foreward to our next "informal" meeting.

Sean

P.S.
Where are we getting the smoking jackets from...and my vote is for the big foam cowboy hat :D

Definitely a good time. I just wish I could have stayed longer. Was anything decided on when/where the next meeting is going to be?

It was nice to see such a good turn out and get to meet some other local makers. I was the one in the Carolina Panthers hat by the way. Next time I will leave the whole day open on my schedule.

I sure hope this keeps its momentum.

I'd like to host one sometime in the summer or in the fall. Hopefully I'll be able to make it to one before...

Matt

yes thanks to cashen for opening his shop and home to us talking with us all day even though he was ill and just for showing this high teck red neck a good time

any one know where to get the official unofficial michigan (and others) knifemakers fez's?

and any word on when we get to invade the south :-P

It was great to meet everyone at what I hope will be the first of many such events. I thought it was a terrific turn out for a first time event. Now, lets see some gatherings in other states. Anyone in IN., IL., or WI. want to do anything? I'm in IL. and trying to work something out. ( I've got a REALLY small shop ) The balls rolling all we have to do is nudge it now and then.

I want to thank everybody who came for a visit. I am having a hard time writing this (or even comprehending what I am reading) since my conditaion has went downhill. The narcotics (prescription stuff) that were keeping me on my feet on Saturday eventually wore off and I crashed, but my wife Karen stepped up and kept the hospitality alive for the remainder. I had to go to the final 5 hour class of "Unified Incident Command" for the Fire Dept the very next day- that was excrutiating, and I can't say I learned a single thing. I was hoping to wake up this morning and find my condition improved :(

Bob; Rick informed me that he couldn't come to my shop without sabotaging at least one piece of my equipment (it would break a tradition;)). When he said you and he tried to use the power hammer I imediatley interrupted "I hope you didn't blow the fuses in the..." "We did", he answered. I tried to give him a crash course in starting rotary phase converters via the start capacitor :D .

I would like to say that for a first time we had a good turn out, and the good news is that I didn't really tap deep into the pool of makers available as I know I can a t least double our mailing list. If the gathering comes back to my place in warm weather it would be great to get some portable forges outside and a good barbeque goign as well. Tim Zowada has offered to host a get together up at his shop near Boyne Falls, sometime this summer, and I have had other folks volunteer. Right now if we could get one rolling for late March or mid April (not to interfere with the Badger show) we can keep the momentum going. I will send out an e-mail to see who can host one then. In the meantime I will try to get over to Ken Mankles Thursday night get together and see how we can join forces and keep things moving.

I apologize for the diseased state I was in and I hope the icey grip of the reaper didn't keep me from entertaining my guests well enough. I really do put on a better show when I am coherent ;)

It was great. I fired up the coal forge, (because Rick and I were not sure how to start your gas forge) pulled out my hammers, (because Rick and I were not sure how to start your power hammers) and got forging. I used my 3lbs. and gave Rick my short handled 12lbs. and we double teamed the bars I was flattening. It's been awhile since I've done that. Ahhh, the fond memories. Next time I need a crash course in your power hammers also!
Anyway, I look forward to the next get together. I think everyone came away with at least one new tidbit of info. Where is Tim Zowada's place from you?

Kevin, thanks for your hospitality and for sticking it out in the face of physical adversity! It was great to see everyone and swap ideas, and I sure hope we can continue to do it.
