No one answered on another thread so...

I noticed that there is the Companion and the Companion Mark II-5.

Aside from the visual differences that I can see, exposed tang at the butt and sculpted scales on the Mark II, where is the big price difference coming from?

To me, they seem like the same knife.

I'm rather new at this stuff so any comments are welcome!

The grinds on both appear to be the same and aren't advertised otherwise so I dunno, besides the sculpting of the micarta. You're right, $40 does seem like a big hike. :(

You have pinpointed the differences perfectly, and are exactly right. I have had both, and still have the Companion, and readily recommend it, especially at $49.95...it's a fantasic bargain at that price.

I think that John is using 3/16" rather the 1/4" stock for the new models. Anyone know for sure?

I was about to "correct" you all by noting it's the "Cub Companion," but fortunately I went to the link first. :)

Wow! Lot's of Grecos to choose from now. I thought I bought one of the last 5" Companions a couple months ago, but they're back, along with a passle of others.

My Companion is a full 1/4" thick, and it's one heck of a chunk of steel! My guess as to the price difference is that the Mark II-5 looks like it has thumb serrations in it's picture, while the Companion doesn't. On the other hand, the Companion even has an extra set of hex screws holding the scales on?

Also, it could simply be that Greco has made an awful lot of Companions and sells them through BladeArt...or he wants to get his hefty, nicely finished blades out to us knifeknuts so we:

BUY MORE!!!! :D

Yep, it's probably a conspiracy...

I have a question: Are you sure these scales are Micarta???? They almost seem like aluminum...?? Although my micarta Livesays sound a bit like metal when I tap them with my nails...just not as "metallic" as my Greco.

Thanks guys...the info is much appreciated.
I didn't want to spend all that extra money just
for a slight difference.
