I got a like new Greco Falcon from one of the great guys on the forum. I never saw or handled a Greco before.
So in it comes. I'm so excited. WHAT!! I can't open the dang thing!! What's up with that??
I admit I have a deficiency in opening righty only folders, of late. I have a CKT Brend manual folder that I had the same problem with. Damn Brend was stiff to open. I handed the CKT Brend to a buddy with two hands and he said 'yep, opens like butter" So it's mostly me
I look forward to handing this to a knife bud in the next day or so to get his take on opening it
This is a no nonsense folder.. Form following function!
When I got it, first I tried moving the pivot pin. Well it just turned. I called John Greco to see what I could do..and how to do it. It looked like the frame lock was dragging on the blade.
John is a GREAT guy and we spent an hour on the phone getting more info on the Falcon and tactical series than I can remember and shootin the breeze.
Here's what I learned about how to adjust the Grecos.
- DON'T turn the pivot pin. It's made to keep tension on the frame and it's loctited in position. WHEW! Good thing I didn't take a wrench to it.
- There's a ball in the frame lock that is positioned so the blade rides on the ball. NOT on the rail. The ball is positioned in the framelock bar and has a slit so it is adjustable.
I got an appropriate size punch and WITH THE BLADE IN THE CLOSED POSITION, reseated the ball so it rode in the detent (or scalloped hole) in the blade.
I can see where repositioning the depth of the ball has released the drag from that area of the blade.
- John also said I could bend the lock bar out a bit. I'm not physically able to do so now.
When I close the blade I can see that the framelock scrapes or rides on the blade. This isn't supposed to be. Someone possibly tried to change the framelock bar position or it may have come that way. They may have done this without knowing what the silver ball was for.
I didn't know or have an idea what the ball was for till I spoke with John.
- the lockbar is supposed to ride in the center of the blade in the open position. That's the way Greco makes em so it's a fixed blade in a folder configuration.
- How do you tell the difference from a Falcon and a Whisper? The whisper has a sweep on the far end of the handle. Falcon is straight in line at the far end of the handle..pommel?
The blades are the same.
John Greco is still making knives tho he's changing his style a lot. He's moving away from the tactical and entering another phase in life
John is recovering from his illness well and he surely is a GREAT GUY!!
THERE WILL BE NO MORE TACTICALS MADE SO ONCE THEY'RE GONE....
He still has some on his site. GRECOKNIVES.COM tho I have to use internet explorer to access the site. Mozilla just can't do it. Tho it may be cause of my security stuff on Mozilla

This is one tough motha. I like it lots!
I think the thumbstud could be reversed with little effort for lefty's
Lockbar riding center line of the blade for the most strength
God Bless Us All
