Greco folders?

I too would like to hear more about Greco's folders. I am hoping to get a flat ground Whisper for X-mas and I am very excited about it. Some of the design featues of his knives are very apealing to me. I like the bladeshapes he chooses, the framelock looks substantial, big thick flat-ground blade and the entire knife handle and all is made out of the same steel. It also looks like a knife I can work on, tune, take apart, refinish, make scales for...etc.

I am also very interested about 8670 steel in general. If anyone has some information on it, or some resources to read it would be greatly appreciated

I have both a Greco friction folder and a Grifon. They are both top notch, quality pieces that are built to last. By that, I mean that they are heavy, thick, and have thick grinds. The Grifon was EXTREMELY stiff when new and the blade is bent as many of Greco's folders are due to the tang stamp. This doesn't affect the performance of the knife, but it does make it steer to the left in the handle.

So the blade has a slight bend to it due to some maufacturing procedure? Thats kindova bummer.

It was alluded to on the website that he has solved the problem of the folders being too stiff with this new flat-ground series. I wonder what has changed?

My main attraction is that I want a strong knife. I love the term "Overbuilt" and I think it is a very good thing for a knife to be. I would imagine the lock is pretty tight due to the fact it is not made of a softer metal like titanium or 410.

I'm not sure but I think they corrected this problem... or maybe I told myself that

I just placed an order for a Greco Falcon (Flat Ground). Does anyone have one of the new flat ground models? The pics on cqcknives.com show the blades unmarked (without the Greco stamp). Are the new flat ground folders sterile?

I can't seem to open any of the greco sites? anyone else have this problem???

I just got a new Greco Whisper (flat ground) folder. It is NOT bent and (out of the box) it is not hard to open or close (in fact it's easy and I can't stop flicking it open and closing it). I wouldn't worry about that. I love this knife. :D I like it much better than my Spyderco Delica and all stainless Harpy. I would have to guess (based on my experience) that the problems have been solved. It's also very sharp and although it's very thick, I have been using it as my EDC and it works very well. I haven't put it to use in any extreme conditions (that might tend to gum it up) yet however.

Hey Eager, on CQCKnives' website, the pics of the flat ground Falcons and Whispers show the blades unmarked without the Greco stamp. Is the blade sterile on your Whisper? Just curious.

It is indeed sterile i.e. there is no marking what-so-ever. But it's OK. It goes with it's minimalist nature. Kind of undercover, unassuming, non-commercial if you will.

Wow. I am really excited about getting one!

Eager, everything you said about it makes me want it even more ravenously.

I am happy about it being sterile. I hate having someone else's name on my knife, even if they were the talented craftsman that made it.

I wonder if anyone has any pics of the scales applied or perhapos even some nice custom scales.

And thanks Esav Benyamin for the links, very informative.

Thanks Eager, I look forward to receiving mine by the end of the week. From what you previously stated, the flat ground Falcons and Whispers are an improvement over the originals. I only wish they had pocket clips.
