Just picked up 2 Greco's on ebay. There is a sale it seems going on with them. He has combo's up there and well couldn't resist the temptation to pick a combo up. I bought the 6" buffalo hunter with a stacked leather washer and stag handle, along with a personal which is about 7.5" in length. Both include some pretty nice looking sheaths. All carbon steel in both. Anyways anyone own a Greco? I owned a FireFox years and years ago and donated it to the USN forums but now I don't go there so have no idea whatever became of it. What I can remember is that it was a heavy bugger, simple with sharp grinds and of course the thing was sharp. The sheath was pretty crappy though. So opinions are welcome. thanks and keepem sharp:D

I own a Whisper, a Baby Whisper and a 3inch blade utility knife. I bought them a few years ago when John was going to retire, so I got them at a very good price. The Whisper has a 6 inch blade made of 8670 with a plain black
macarta handle. I paid $50 for it at the time and it is excellent. It is very sharp and light in the hand. These are not pretty knives, they were made to use. I also bought a folder from Greco but I was dissapointed when I got it. The fit was poor, the blade did'nt lock up tight so I sold it. John makes strong knives made to be used.

I have a Whisperer,Whisper,Green River skinner(A2).
Good knives for the price and have heard them refered to as having an "industrial" feel and have to agree with that description.
Mine have either black or green micarta.
They cut pretty fair,as well.

I also bought a few back when he was going to retire. A companion, mst, hatch it, and another large chopper type. Although I can't remember the name of the last one that I bought. Talking to him on the phone he seemed like a very personable fellow, spent a lot of time answering questions and chewing the fat talking about knives. His knives are meant to be used, and I got the feeling he would be slightly offended if they became "safe queens". I think they are one of the best bangs for the buck you can get, buy one or two use them and you will agree.

I have a Dangler (Caper) and I love it. It is sharp, the steel holds a great edge, and whatever he coats his blades with has been good to me. It has been a great knife.

I have a couple of his Every Day Carry Knives.

They are razor sharp & industrial strength.

This is good to hear. Have 2 of them coming and for the price they can't be beat I don't think. As I said I had an early FoxFire and the thing was sharp with good grind lines but it was a sharpened pry bar. keepem sharp

Nice fellow - I stop to chat whenever I see him here at the AGCA gunshows. I have several of his knives - great value for the list price, really super when you find them reduced. Well, perhaps not - if it means he is retiring, as he said a few years back. He has moderated his life a bit - his health seems fairly good - so he is back at work. Some of his gun show knives may just be 'one-offs' or 'whimsical' - but that is where you find his real bargains. I bought another one at the last show - interesting 'stone wash' blade - that 8670 takes an edge. Great 'users'.

I love it....I spoke with him on the phone about modifying the handle and he was more than willing to do what I wanted. Super nice guy. The use this knife frequently and it feels....indestructible. I feel they are worth much more than he charges. I'm sure you will enjoy you new knives....congrats on the good pickup.

Hey Guys..

Thanks fellers. Looking forward to getting the knives. Just over hundred bucks with shipping. Am getting a 6" buffalo hunter and a caper/dangler. The buffalo hunter has nickel, brass, and leather spacers in front of horn. Combo is like 25%/75% of each. I will keep you guys posted as to when they arrive. keepem sharp and thanks for the encouraging words:thumbup:

The "Scagel" type has a horrendous stress riser 90 degree grind right AT the guard. It WILL break under stress.
The full tang ones seem good.

I thought a stress riser only mattered on a forged knife. Greco uses stock removal on all of his. Correct me if I am wrong on this. thanks and keepem sharp

This is how the break looked.

I have an MST and an MST Mk II in A2 steel, and they have held up fantastically. I did reprofile the edge on my original MST just to get a little more carving ability out of it. I also have one of his newer laser cut, machined MST knives, but I haven't used it much.

I like John's knives. I've spoken with him a few times at shows, and he seems like a great guy. I wish he'd make his Green River Camp Knife again. That was one I always wanted to try.

 Recieved my Whisper and EDC in black powder coat yesterday and I dig'em both...Talked with John also and he says when they are gone they are GONE:eek: He is givin it up. Ebay has a good selection still and I highly recommend lookin into them...
