I cannot take advantage of their teriffic sales, because I cannot get heir pics to load- does anyone else have this problem? I'm going to email them in a bit, but if it's jst me, i'd feel silly..

Nope... I could see the pictures fine.
BTW anyone know the properties of 8670 that Greco uses?

I pulled this from another thread. It is a response from David Bata to a question on 8670 steel by BF member Diletante:

QUOTE THREAD:

Heres CQC's response to an e-mail I sent them about Greco's knives
I asked about 8670 and the breadth of the Companion's blade. Here's what David Bata of CQC said:

"The 8670 steel is a chrome / nickel alloy carbon steel from Germany. The contents are .71 - 1& nickel, .3 - .5% chrome, and .75% carbon. The RC on the edge is 58, and the spine is almost dead soft to provide flexibility. I find the steel easier to sharpen, and it holds an edge longer. That is one of the reasons that John switched from 5160 and A2. Also because his supply of A2 ran out".

ENDQUOTE THREAD

This is the best explanation of 8670 steel and John Greco's heat treating etc. I don't know why they don't post this right on the web page, maybe I'll suggest it. I have seen others state that this steel, 8670, is similar to L6. It is supposedly used by the Germans to cut slots in screws and other hard tempered steel products.

Seems to me to make a damn fine knifeblade...now if they were only THINNER!

I never had problems with their pics loading, BUT if you're going to order anything read their web-notes carefully. Last month I ordered a Falcon, only to have them refuse the order because their sale was "limited to stock on hand", even though I oredered before the so-called expiration date of the sale also noted on the web. I was told I could purchase at the new, higher price, but not the (spectacular !) $50 price. Don't know when that note was placed on the site (I may have just missed it, but usually I see those things), but in any case I missed out.
I wasn't happy with a two-part sale deadline, or the fact that they kept the sale up on the web for two weeks after they'd sold out of their original stock, so I just decided to save my money for another buy -- from a different maker. Too bad, I have 3 other Grecos and like them a lot, but dealing with John isn't the same as with the CQC folks, I guess.

nine John Greco knives from CQC Tactical Knives\David Bata. Everyone of these transactions was a good one. From the sale price to communication, to shipping-every aspect was first rate.

According to CQC the response to their 'sale' was overwhelming. They had not expected such a demand-particularly on the folders. EVERYTIME I CHECKED their website (which was often several times a day), there were scrolling notes added to many of the models such as "Temporarily out of stock", and "only three left", "Call before placing an order". In addition to this there was a note that explained that several models-the Scout, Fox Fighter Drop Point, Fox Fighter Saxon, Bones, and others were "the last ones, after this no more". At some point, I believe about two weeks before the sale ended there awas a large font warning that stated something to the effect that the sale price was: "LIMITED TO STOCK ON HAND". NOT TO MENTION there was an added statement BEFORE THE SALE ENDED, that if you inadvertantly purchased an out of stock knife, they would automatically refund your money (this actually happend to me). I may have even saved this page, if so I will try to verify when this was added to the CQC Home page.

I felt the need to speak out in order to clarify a potentially misleading remark made against CQC which I feel, is uncalled for.

As stated above, I have some experience dealing with CQC and they have always done right by me, and others here at BF. I highly recommend them for any John Greco knife that strikes your fancy. CQC is a two-person business (husband and wife)as far as I know, and I think they have done a heck of a job supplying the demand for all these Greco's!

AND NO-I AM NOT IN ANY WAY CONNECTED TO CQC TACTICAL KNIVES.

Sincerely,

Mongrel

edited to remove the word 'derogatory'-please see post below, thanks

Thanks Mongrel for the clarification about the Steel.
I think CQC should get better webmasters... the link colors on black is horrible to see, especially when you've clicked on it and it turned purple.
I'm wanting a Recon, but I don't have the cash to get it....
Oh does Mr. Greco has his own site?

Martin J ;) I have to learn how to do that!

Calyth-No. Mr. Greco's site is 'under construction'. It is linked through the CQC website though. I am guessing it should be up soon.

As far as I know, CQC will still be the online representitive for all of John Greco's new work. The link on the partially done Greco Knives web page took you right back to the CQC home page. That is why I THINK that they will remain his exclusive online dealer. Of course, I could be wrong- :).

re: RECON, I missed that one also! I went for the Scout instead. Oh well, maybe the "$50 sale" will be a semi-annual event!

What I'd really like to see is the Greco Kukri back in production! I saw one for sale at Bladeart, but $250 is a bit high right now. The Kukri is one wicked looking knife.

I agree with Mongrel's comments. CQC Knives was up-front about the availability of the sale knives. I showed a friend of mine the Falcon and gave him the phone number of CQC. He was very excited about the knife, but was given a $75 price (I paid the sale price $50). He ordered it anyway and considered it a bargain at $75. I can't say I disagree.

Ditto! I purchased SIX knives from CQC in June alone. The knives, the service, the shipping - all First Class!

Guess my experience is proof of the old saying "It's the exception that proves the rule". And BTW I didn't imply anything even "potentially derogatory" about CQC or the Batas -- just related my personal experience with them. I dealt directly with John in the past. He was a pleasure to do business with. Hope he does get his site up soon.

Mongrel, it is the hi-technology of cut & paste :p
Actually, there is also pics of Greco work at www.bladeart.com
I bought a Companion for $50, it is unbelievable "bang for buck"

Please accept my sincerest apologies if I have misread, misunderstood or misrepresented your post.
I have removed the word 'derogatory' from my post in reference to your post, I have however left the 'misleading' in.

To clarify: I felt that CQC Knives had been pretty clear as to the specifics of the sale and its application to 'in-stock' knives. I am sorry that your experience with them was not as positive as it could have been, or as you stated as positive as your experience with John Greco directly.

My intention was to point out that I, and others who reported here at BF, had very positive experiences with CQC Knives. I offered my experience as a contrast to yours so people were not left with what I felt was a "misleading" or wrong impression of CQC's business practices, which I feel are above board. Your post left me and possibly others with the impression that you felt you were treated with a kind of 'bait and switch' in regard to availablity and pricing of the Greco folders. I just wanted people to know that is not how CQC does business in my opinion. It is important for people to know that CQC is doing a fine job as John Greco's only current model online vendor.

Sincerely,

Mongrel

ps Thanks Martin! :)

Thanks Mongrel, and thanks to your post, and all the others, I have a better appreciation of CQC than before. Maybe it's not fair of me to compare an internet transaction with a one on one buy, or even with a purchase made through a personal phone call.
Nevertheless, we are blessed through these Forums to learn more about our hobby, our passions, and in many cases our livelihood, and the people who make them possible. So I'll have to watch CQCs page for their next offering that I can't resist.
Now if only John would figure out how to make an M1A1 tank-like knife that opened as easily as my grandson's smile -- well, I pray for world peace, too.
thanks again,
MtMike :)
