I just recieved a Greco Mst II. I havent been out yet to play with it but initial impression is WOW !! I cant believe you get that much well made knife for that money. If it performs as well then this was a steal. Easily have paid 250. for a lot less knife. Anyway I am thinking about the companion now as a daily carry. Hammerheads Has them as having the same blade length but is the Companion slightly shorter oal and lighter. Anyone handle both ??
Alex

yes i have both.
the blade lengths are the same.
the companion's handle is 1" shorter and 1/8" thinner.
it has a different feel from the MST because of this, plus it doesn't have thumb serrations. i think you're on the right track getting both of them.

I've always liked the looks and feel of John's knives, though the ones I've handled were very thick bladed, glad to hear he also makes some that are thinner for slicing.
For the money he is very hard to beat!!

The Companion is an awesome knife! A great valuefor the $$, and one very well made knife. You can't go wrong with one, and our own Waxes Eloquent can make you up an excellent concealex sheath that will make the Companion even better as a daily carry knife.

I own an MST II, Companion Cub, Little Baron ( a mini-Green River) and I have made sheaths for others' full-size Companions. The MST II is a really nice knife, but I think the handle is too long for my hand. It took me a while to get a good grip on it, but I grew accustomed to it after a while.
The Companion was a really well balanced knife, if I can remember right, but my favorties are his smaller knives, like the Cub and Little Baron. They fit my hand perfectly, and I think they are 3/16" 1075. They are quite sharp. At John's prices, you can collect 'em all! I bought the MST II well-used, Little Baron brand new at Badger Show, and the Cub I bought second hand but unused. I paid under $150 for three awesome knives!

Does he make any that are less than 3/16" thick? Also, doesn't he do some of his knives in A2?

Where can I take a look at MST II I've only seen Companion?

Thanks.

When you do take it out to play. I am willing to bet you be even more pleased.
John gives a huge bang for the buck.

I was under the impression that both his small and large knives were made out of A2. That's what I've seen on websites where they were advertised. I've got one of his small Companions. I would prefer that it was thinner than 3/16", but I got it since it was perported to be made from A2. I lowered the edge taper significantly and put a razor edge on it. I've completely shaved my face with the blade.

I've got the Companion II (A2 steel). It is a large knife (12 1/4" OAL, 1/4" thick) and feels very comfortable in the hand. It is an excellent knife for the price, and John & Shirley Greco are great folks.
