I just bought a greco knife at the MTV knife show. Would like to know if anybody else has a greco and if so what do you think of them.

My friend bought a Persian and loved it so much he gave it to a buddy in the LAPD, then he got himself another...

MDP

Which one did yuou get?

Not sure what he called, but he said this is the only one he made. It has ~6" blade and ~12" overall it is "fighter" type. I have been hacking up all my 2x4 and stuff to play with it I love it so far.

gregj62 is the knife you have a flat spine or curved? I have 3 of them and think the world of his work. A tactical , persian , and one I'll call a skinner about 3.5 inches the others are all 5inchers. You say yours is 6" is it from A2 stock? Micarta handles? What is the grey coating he applys, or does yours have that. good choice and watch for those 2x4 s to mount a counter attack. heh MikeM

Kali, The knife has curved blade but it is not much. I guess it is best called a tactical, he said this is a one and only, don't know if that is because it is good or bad(maybe he had couldn't sell this one)but I like. I forgot to ask what steel it is made out of, handles are Micarta. It is 1/4 thick, but takes a good edge.

I have a Greco Persian and I carry it at all times either in a nordic pouch in my front pocket or in a nordic pouch on my belt.
Part of me hopes the world never discovers John Greco so I can continue to buy his knives at a reasonable price, and the other part hopes he will get the recognition his designs and knives deserve.
I don't have his phone number handy, but if you see one of his ads, give him a call. A modest man, I think he knows more about knives than most of the current crop of cutlery conmen, and I would count time on the phone with him, and his wife Shirley, as pure gold.
Furthermore, I like A2, but then I think a knife should hold its edge and point even after hitting a belt buckle.
Greco uses glass beading and a special lacquer to get that lovely ghost grey finish, and he will refinish it for $10 or $15. I steel and oil my knife every two weeks or so and it looks nice, if not a little scary to most non-knife people. It takes a little extra work to get the razor sharp edge I prefer, because of the thickness of the blade right down to the final bevel and the ax-type included angle, but I know it will punch through and cut a car door or roof without losing its ability to shave my arm.

My knife looks just like the MST in the March "Tactical Knives" but my knife is 1.5" longer

Does anyone know if he`ll make blades out of 3/16 stock? I really like the look (and price!) of his designs but I`d prefer a thinner blade for less weight and a sharper bevel. Marcus

He pefers 1/4 stock but I bet he would make it out of 3/16 stock if you asked him to. Call him and ask, he is a real friendly person, nice guy

I called Greco Knives last night & spoke to Mrs. Greco,{a very pleasant & lovely lady by the way} & she told me that at this time the only models available in 3/16 stock were basically the smaller models: Cub Companion, Small Clip Tip Fighter, & others. If I recall correctly about 8 models in all. Unfortunately, none of the larger models, Companion, Mst, Mst II, will be made in 3/16 stock for the forseeable future, only in 1/4 stock. Her comment was that they wanted these knives to be as tough as possible for the people who really use them and abuse them. Hey I understand, but maybe someday they will make them in 3/16. If you haven't gotten a catalog from them lately, get one & check out the MST II. It looks like a combination of the Companion & the MST. A cool looking knife & has features I like. Great Knives!!

Doug.
