Quick question, and I did a search (only to have one thread telling me to do a search)
I wonder how well the 8670 that Mr. Greco use will hold up in terms of rust in a camping situation.

have had 3 grecos, have actually used one fairly heavily, lotsa scratches/scuffs on the coating/etc, never a hint of rust.

of course i do clean/oil regularly, so keep that in mind.

dont know what will happen if ya, say soak it in salt water for 48 hours lol, but w/normal use ya wont have probs imho.

cool. Thanks
I have the Flat Grind MST IV, and I'm lending it out for my friend on a camping trip.

Yes, this steel will rust quite easily if not wiped down regularly. 8670 is not stainless. Greco usually coats the blades with some epoxy powder coat to protect them.

While we are on the subject of Greco knives, are the Greco folders any good?

I was made to understand that Greco folders are just as solid as its fixed blades. Is that true?

While I don't own one, I have fondled Mr. Greco's folders at several shows, and they are built like absolute tanks! At the time, I wasn't much of a folder guy, but since I acquired my CUDA Maxx 5.5 I have become somewhat of a believer. Mr. Greco is a down to earth guy and makes great knives for the price. I hope he is at the upcoming AECA show in Chicago, I may just get me one!

I have a number of Greco knives, and if you do even basic cleaning/oiling after use, they'll do fine. I have one folder, and it IS a tank, but it needed its edge thinned out a tad. It was sharp as it came, cut shave hair, just wasn't an efficient slicer. Of course, the new flat ground folders are supposed to have taken care of that. They aren't fancy, but they're very well made. :)

Actually the flat ground Greco folders are also quite thick in the blade and benefit from thinning out as well. I have the Whisper folder and quite like it e.g. I preffer it to my Spydercos and BM 806D2 for EDC. Unfortunately I'm not the best knife tester. I work in an office that keeps me so busy I rarely really get to use my knives. Also, I live in a very dry climate. My Greco folder is not a great slicer even after thinning but is a good slicer and the blade is very stout and the whole package especially the lock-up is very reassuringly "bank vault"-like rugged. I like my Greco folder but am also a little concerned about what will happed if I have to use it on a wet camping or backpacking trip.
