These are similarly priced knives. They both look very cool and very efficient. What are some points that might favor one over the other?

The CRK Yarborough is S30V w/ micarta handles, vs. the Gerber with 154CM and Hytrel. From that perspective, the CRK is made of better materials, in addition to being near custom in terms of heat treatment and finish.

It would appear the Gerber is overpriced for what it is - a production 154CM fixed blade - but that remains to be seen since I don't think they've hit the street yet. Both are Bill Harsey designs, and both will likely function well in their intended environment.

JMO, but the CRK is a good value at its $299 retail, while the Gerber should be south of $150 for what it is.

You can get a D2 Kabar for $125 - I think Gerber will have to adjust the price point on the Trident.

The ad on the back of the magazine called out something like $345.00 for the Gerber, which is probably the suggested retail price. Cost more than the Yarborough.

I saw one on eBay for $190 and it saud it was made of Aus-8 steel which is definetly not worth that price.

There would seem to be no competition between these knives.

I am at a loss as to understand how Gerber thinks their knife is worth that.

Alternately, I am sure that in the next year, when I head down to my local knife store, there will be some bloke going on about how wonderful his is, and how he would not trade it for any other knife on the planet, or even a high-end automobile.

Where's your local knife store at Marion? I spend a fair amount of time over in Idaho.:)

BigDeeeeeeee,

There is BitterRoot Cutlery at Kathleen and Government.

But I was thinking in general about any local store, Spartan up at NorthTown or even a department store with a blade counter.

What sort of knives you into, I am not familiar with many local guys.

Marion

I'll have to check out BitterRoot. There just aren't that many places around to go in and ogle knives around here. So far my collection is just medium to high end production stuff but I'd love to find a place that had an assortment of customs in the case for flavor. Spartan has a fair selection but to much other crap too.

Have you seen the back cover ad in Tactical Knives? Somebody has to pay for that ad, and charging $345.00 for that knife is one way to do it! ;) geegee

@geegee: LOL

I'm lost when something knife is conected whith a certain unit, but the silver-trident cured me from that.

I'll own the GB form CRK. I love it. (have to admit I'm a collector and use only a very saml group of my knives).
I allways wanted a project one, but A2 isn't my cup of tea.

I guess it's looking like thumbs up for the CRK and thumbs down for the Gerber?

I'll third that. CRK is a fine company and I really like the Sebenza. CRK is a class act. I don't have much experience with Gerber. In the early eighties I bought a coule of Paul knives. They were OK but by todays standards they aren't much. The price of an old Paul knife seems to be pretty high.
