Help me decide! I have always liked the one piece design, but now a very cool fixed blade that isn't part of the one piece line. Opinions are appreciated.

ketsugo, one of the reasons no one has responded is because these two knives are so different, with such different capabilities, your choice is not one of functionality but preference. Only you can decide which you prefer. It's a little like asking which you should spend your money on, a 4X4 truck or a motorcycle.

If you have some idea of what you want the knife to do, many can guide you here. If you just like both and are looking for input, you may be on your own.

Both are great knives. I have the Green Beret in case I am recalled to active duty (currently retired), but not likely at this point.

Good luck,

Bruce Woodbury

Thanks, I did see after I posted what a stupid question it was. I have decided on a Green Beret as well.

Thanks,
John

Bruce makes a very good point. Both are great knives and I'm sure either will serve you well, regardless of purpose. I have the Green Beret and a medium size one pc., Mountaineer II. To put it simply, CRK makes a great product. Whatever your choice it will serve you well.

I really did not think that it was a stupid question at all. I too have gotten the hankerin' for another CR One Piece. I already have the Sable, P1, P2 and Mountaineer II along with various other quality fixed blades from various manufacturers. My needs are covered in the fixed blade department, but I do have the itch for another CR One Piece and was trying to dcide between the two referenced above.

The GB knife is all the rage right now for a variety of reasons, not the least of which being that it is new, it is of the new S30V stainless steel and that it is a military knife int his time of (appropriate) increase in patriatism and appreciation for our armed forces. With that said, I am not ready to embrace S30V in the same way that I like A2, especially the way CRK does it. S30V may indeed turn out to be the next wonder steel, biut then again only time and use will tell. I like the design and feel of the knife, but it, to me, is not as unique as the Nkonka.

The Nkonka is a sweet knife. It took a little getting used to the looks of it, but one cannot escape the cool factor of having some small tools in a useful sized and shaped knife with you when afield. The way the knife is built really reduces maching in the stock removal process and the result is a streamlined sort of slender version of the trusted One Piece range we have all come to know and love. I think that the Nkonka will be my choice.

Nkonka for me too! didn't they make a limited run of this knife in
a-2? i thought i read about this last month. anybody else hear of this?

Nkonka prototypes that were officially listed as having made 20 were done in A2 steel at 55~57RC with a D655 Aluminum cap and produced in May of 2002.

Skunk, check your email;)

ah ha i see! they make an optional model made from a harder kriptonite kinda steel for more bucks. that looks like what i might be after. i don't know why but i like more rockwell:D

Wow, you can't loose either way!

Small thing: My understanding of S30V is that it is essentially a "stainless" (more properly "stain-resistant") version of A-2. I'm like 90% sure on this. If anyone has done more research, I'd be interested in the info.
