I JUST got my new 7" GB and I love it. I find the sheath very well made and appears to be very durable and strong/steady. I even like the green color that it came in very much, matches the knife handle in texture and even color really well. I have read people don't like the sheath...whats not to like? You can SWIM with the thing!

The sheath is great. Well made and well designed. You are right about the foliage green color of the sheath matches the knife. It will hold up during military conditions, getting wet and drying without rotting like leather. You can get a leather sheath for the knife from Roy Gfeller in Montana. Some purists like leather for a fine knife. Let the conditions dictate the type of sheath you use.

Zman in partially right, you can get a leather sheath for the Green Beret that is made by Gfeller Casemakers, but at least when I worked for Gfeller’s we didn’t sell CRK sheaths directly, you’ll need to go through CRK. Gfeller Casemakers has been in Boise or Meridian Idaho for probably twenty years now. Zman did you know Roy? Roy did set up shop a few different places in Montana, but the last few years of his life he worked out of Spokane, if I recall right.

Thanks for the reference to the leather sheath. I'll keep it in mind should I decide to get one. I admit to being aprehensive about buying this knife only because of the S30V controversy about chipping as well as Cliff Stamp's review of the knife as well as the sheath getting poor scores. Now I couldn't be happier with it. Its a magnificent knife and is clearly built to the highest standards. The blade is also rediculously strong and rigid. If someone discovers a way to break or bend this blade, they are doing a job meant for either an axe or a crowbar...not a cutting tool. This is my first CRK knife and i'm totally sold on them. However I might be in big trouble as i've been increasingly interested in a simple pocket knife called The Sebena.

You might be reading older threads when they were issuing the Knife with the Black Hawk Sheath. At the time BHI was the the only ones who could produce Sheaths in the numbers they required.
The main complaint was the fact that they were issuing the GB Knife to SF Graduates made in Communist Vietnam. Not made very well according to the reviews. But given some time Mr Harsey and Mr Reeve squared everything away as usual. The Spec Ops Combat Sheath is Made in the USA, With made in the USA Materials. I have yet to see any complaints other then personal preferences for Leather over Cordura.
What many don't realize. The GB Knife was not designed and issued to sit on a shelf. It's issued and designed to be used in the field. IMO, This is the best feature about the whole GB Knife concept. From reading post by the designer himself, it's designed with the Operator in mind, not the collector.
Know they have to start selling and issuing them with the Spec Ops Survival Sheath:D
