green beret VS strider knives

You might get an emotional response on this question, but I have to say either knife can take more than I could throw at it. :D

Did you have a particular task in mind?

which it better for a high preformance knife?

Are you planing to post every question that pops into your head without doing the slightest amount of research?? Questions about sharpeners, CRK knives and their relative hardness, Striders vs Green Beret and more.

The above may sound like a flame and maybe it is, but please...read some of the forums, research some of the topics in order to ask more intellentgent questions. There is a ton of materials at your finger tips, all you have to do is look and read.

If you do little up-front homework may get you the answers you really want.

You don't get it, huh?

Please use the search engine! You will probably find at least a night's worth of reading on this subject.

Hello, they haven't said anything mean, it's just that there is a lot of information saved on this site so stuff doesn't get repeated, and so that we don't get bored of answering the same question over and over again.
How old are you anyway?

Yes there seems to be an abundance of these threads by many different posters here. "Whats the best knife for cleaning my fingernails after lunch but before supper?", "Would a #$% out cut a $%^ if I was skydiving over Java in the early springtime?", or "Which knife could I spend the most money on and never ever use although I want it to stand up to tortures only Cliff Stamp could put it through?". No flame intended, and although I have not been here as long as a lot of the others I kinda get bored by the same stuff over and over. By searching the archives/forums there is so much to learn here and on almost any other board on the net. Some places have instituted a one new thread per member per day policy to keep the forum at a readable pace.

I'm betting we don't hear an admission of true age....especially after reading some of his other posts.

Well, sort of. There's nothing wrong with asking what you did. My only input comes from comparing the Striders that I've had in BG-42, with Paul Bos heat treat and my CRK Projects in A2. The Green Beret is S30V, so I know it's a different animal. In general, I have a hard time finding a Strider design that I like a whole lot and a very easy time liking most of the CRK designs. The Projects are great knives and I'm sure the Green Beret is as good or maybe even better as far as overall ergonomics and functional design. That being said, when I DO find a Strider that fits my hand and that I like, I think it's very hard to beat. The MSC 7.5 (MK-1A in regular production) is awesome. It's a stout, but lean badass knife and if you can't trust Paul Bos BG-42, then something's wrong. Striders and CRK knives are very different. The Striders are more aggressive, more "badass", usually a little more mission-specific, will probably slice and hold an edge better (in the case of the MK-1A). The Reeve is more of an all around, all purpose knife, will probably not hold an edge as long, but will still hold a great edge and be an overall tougher knife. Now, that's not to say that the Strider isn't a tough knife. It sure is. You're comparing two great knives from two great companies. I carry hunters and an occasional bowie for my outdoor stuff, but if I was going into harm's way, I'd feel fine with any of these knives. My personal choice would be the Strider MK-1A in BG-42. It has a big comfortable grip, very flat profile, great flat ground edge and a piercing point. It's so flat that it really carries nicely, very quick and secure in the hand and whatever it touches WILL get cut. Severely. I trust both companies 100% for lifetime warranty as long as the knife is used sensibly.

Ya know, it would be nice if everyone who joined the forums just read and read and never posted questions, until they knew it all like we do :p But if it really bothers you that you've seen the question before, Page Down.

It's true, the question is silly, when the basic answer is probably there somewhere, but a lot of times, the discussion is different enough each time, and gets a few of the new guys involved, learning, that I think it's worth the bandwidth.

At what point do we declare the forums closed, archived, read-only?

Maybe knifelover4ever is young. So was I, half a century ago. I'd be glad to know he's starting to learn at an early age.

What's your definition of "high performance"? What are your expected/intended uses? Why are you comparing just one CRK to a ton of Striders?

Don't know about the function, but a few of Reeve's other fixed blades are available in CPM3V which may be better suited for uses where toughness is more important.

I agree that he shouldn't be given such a hard time for asking a question like this. Sure, it's been discussed before, few things havn't. It's one thing to politely remind him of the search function but you don't have to do it in such a negative way. If we wern't allowed to discuss things that have already been covered before then there would never be room for new oppinions. Peoples impressions change over time after they have used a product for a while and new people may have the knife that didn't have it when the question was first asked and so they didn't have a chance to share their view. Lighten up a little guys. If you don't like the topic, don't click on it.

Sorry, I havn't used either knife so I can't add any great info. I have owned knives from both companies and they are both top notch outfits with great products, I doubt you would be dissapointed by either.

I figured anyone who asks a question has already researched it and wants additional opinions for whatever reason.

Very briefly :

Reeves is built more for cutting and greater penetration with higher handle ergonomics, Strider is built more for strength and handle security.

I have to agree that someone shouldn't be slammed just because they posted something that has been asked before. I'm pretty new here, also, and I'm sure I've probably posted something that may have been asked before (like my "What do YOU use" thread), but opinions change, and I see nothing wrong with someone asking a question that may have been asked a year ago. You might get a whole new set of answers from people who weren't here to post when it was originally asked, and updates from people who have new stuff.

As far as slamming him because of his age, well, that's just ridiculous and rude. I don't care if he is 10 years old. If you think someone is young, then maybe you should try to nurture his or her appreciation and love for one of the oldest tools known to man. Ripping on someone might just make them feel isolated and turn them off to this vast knowledge base we call BladeForums forever.

Leniency for the newbie is a repectable thing.

Just my $.02

That ISN'T what happened READ READ READ THE THREAD.
We were just trying to give him a little helpful advise, and then he wrote this:
"if you do not have anything constructive to say than dont bother saying anything at all." Which means that he wasn't reading the posts very well either. No one slammed the guy, we were just trying to be helpful
