This Knife Style #148 is ground from 1/8" thick 01 TOOL STEEL bar stock. The FULL TAPERED TANG knife is 9 1/4" long with a 4 ½" blade. The cutting edge of the blade is 4" and has a BEVELED FLAT GRIND. At its widest part (at the belly), the blade is 1 1/4". The handle is GREEN CANVAS MICARTA. This knife also has a BLACK VULCANIZED SPACER. One more feature on this handle is the two (2) 1/4" MOSAIC PINS. These pins have been handmade, by me.

The first time I made this style of knife was back in 2002. That knife, the "prototype" is clipped above my workbench where it is used every day. It is the knife that I grab when I need to cut cardboard, when I cut up the junk mail to throw away, when I need to cut rope, anytime that I need a strong knife I know that this knife will do the job. I am very happy with the knife that I made back in 2002 but when I compare it to THIS knife, I see quite a difference! It's like night and day!

Thanks munky...
The finish is a mustard patina.

I am an amateur maker, and I've been trying to get a mustard patina on a knife for weeks but it just doesn't come out right. Could you PLEASE tell me how you do it? Pictures would only add to any explanation... Thanks

quinoito,
I sent you an e-mail with a bit of a run down on how I do it.
Thanks for the note.

Love the mosaic pins.. Is there a specific name for them?? The mustard patina and micarta is awesome as well.. The blade shape isnt my style, but looks good nonetheless..

I would appreciate how to get a mustard patina as well. It's absolutely awesome. Jajimi

I'm not a huge fan of recurves, but I really love the classic blade shape on this one with the modern handle shape. This one is an absolute stunner with real character! Very nice!

bodydamage, Thanks for the comments. I don't have a name for the pins. Truth be told, I got tired of paying the (often times) outrageous prices for the occasional pins. After tossing around a few ideas I went to the local hobby shop and got some brass and silver rods in varying sizes, along with some tubing. I just fit the rods in the tubing until I get a pattern I like and fill the whole thing (using a syringe) with epoxy. It takes some patience and steady hands but I have been happy with the outcome so far.

Man, Im asking for all your trade secrets here, how do you peen them and have everything stay in place?? Do you just not worry about peening them and just epoxy the hell out of it??
