Green Laser! Got to get one!

Wow! That's cool. Hey, they're right here in town! I'll have to go take a look at those. Ouch... A bit out of my price range for now. Oh well. Being green isn't enough to make me buy a laser pointer over fixing the brakes on my VW... :p
 
I had a play with one of these for a short time (too short a time)
Oh my! It's gorgeous, and I am getting my own early this year.
Sure they cost, but when you see one for real...

D'oh! I've got to stop checking this forum. ;) Is the BTS-8 more powerful than the BTS-6? They both say "Rated at 5 mw."
 
It looks like the BTS-6 and BTS-8 are the same laser, just with different packaging.

I can't find anything on how long a set of batteries lasts. The laser itself is rated for an operating lifetime of 2000 hours. Not bad, a few years, if you don't go around burning everyone in town!

Maybe it is for flight instructors to demonstrate on flying aircraft:

Be careful what you point it at, lest the Air Force think you are lasing a target!
 
What are the differences between the two models? The only differences that I can see are the color of the laser pointer and the case that they come in. Why would you pay 50 dollars more just for a different color of laser pointer and a different case>

Marketing, Jeff, marketing! You can get the -6 in silver or black, but the -8 seems to come only in black; the -8 gets that elegant carved rosewood case. Whoop-de-doo!

We have a small airport near us, and the single-engine planes out of there practice taking off, flying a short pattern -- over my building -- and landing. I can pick them up on my scanner, but the whole routine is so boring, why bother?

Add a little excitement to their lives :D
 
I think the rating on the BTS-6 is a typo, and should be 3. On this page, it says:
Green Beam Executive Presentation Pointers from MiracleBeam. Available in 3 mW and 5 mW. These are the most powerful hand held lasers in the world !! 20 times brighter than a red laser, the green beam itself can be seen in mid - air, not just the laser beam dot !!! Has a beam range of over 2 and 1/2 miles !!!

I have been selling these items on the web for 2 years now. Prices
have dropped substantially. Prices were $ 400 per unit last holiday season. New suppliers are aggressively quoting volume price breaks to me. ( BTS - 6 ) My long time supplier is holding the line at this time. ( BTS - 8 ) The BTS - 6, and BTS - 8 pointers are virtually identical except for the price and packaging. 6 month warranty. I just received my BTS-6 and WOW!!!
If the BTS-8 is any brighter than its downright scary.

At night in a dark room I can point it at the ceiling and cast a green glow on all 4 walls. There's enough light to clearly read the face of my watch.
In a well-lit room the beam is invisible but the dot is easily the brightest point around. It was clearly visible on all surfaces, including black fabric.
Outside I could easily project the dot onto the clouds above and the beam was easily visible all of the way up.
This morning in the 6:00am darkness I could clearly see the beam in the not-so-dusty interior of my car and up on my roof at work I could easily bounce the dot onto a building a 1/2 mile away and again, see the beam stretching out behind it.
My co-worker says that this is a GOOD toy.

That's scary.

I bet in a fog, the beam would almost turn solid :D

I wonder what effect it would have on tailgaters? Reach out and touch someone!
