Does anyone know where to find a pattern for one of these.I like pouch sheaths but would the extreme curve of the blade cause problems.Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi Willis
My first post here.
I think alot of the old timers didn't wear a skinning knife . the belt knife was a more utilty or fighting style. These skinners and butchers would be carried in the grub box . I'm thinking some thin pig skin wrapped candy cane style to protect the knife edge and other items from the knife edge.
Does this help?

Thanks for the reply Crookedknife. The thing is going to be given to a good friend and I am experimenting with a big pouch type sheath.

When I was a kid everyone had a skinning knife , and they were carried in a sheath similar to the photo .
It is not one of my sheaths , I just found it on the net , but the shape and design are very close to what we used . I still have one of those steels ( we called them a rabbiters steel ) and use it to touch up my leather making knife .
In those days the sheaths were bought cheap from the local supply shop at the same time as the knife , they were not as well finished as the one in the photo .

Great looking sheath Harronek!

Would definitly fit the functional requirement for this style of blade and the steel pouch is a very functional extra.
I might try making one of these in veg tan leather for a skinner I have.
