Green River Knife Mod Question

Hi all! I have been debating modding a green river 4.5in belt knife for a while, but need to ask a two questions first. First off, does anyone know the rockwell hardness of these things? Somewhere in the mid to low 50's? Secondly, will a dremel, hacksaw, set of bastard files, and sandpaper be enough to modify this knife into a kephart pattern? I know that they sell a knife already in that general spearpoint pattern, but I don't care for the five inch blade and the weird serration like grooves on the back of the blade. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

If they are anything like Ontario Old Hickories, and I believe they are, you will be able to do what ever you wish with those tools. I have modified many an OH with nothing more than sharp files and sandpaper. Tons of fun.

This will be a good project. A file should cut it. It doesn't state they have been heat treated. So, yes. The Kephart pattern looks similar to a Michael Price. DM

Thanks for the replies! After doing some more poking around, I have another question. Are the knives that people typically refer to as being "the" green river knife brand the ones being manufactured by Dexter-Russell? I read somewhere they were being produced by another company, but wikipedia said they merged to form Dexter-Russell... Does that mean they are the same knives?
