I am a new guy to the forum and hope you guys can help me. I work on a tug boat and need to carry a knife that would not be effected by salt water and my only use for the knife it would be if I got caught/tangled in one of the lines/rope, I could cut my self out of the line/rope. The biggest diameter would be the diameter of a "D" size battery. I would need to keep it close to my hand so...maybe at the belt side...I think it would be best for a fixed blade..can you suggest a knife to me. Thank you in advanced for your time and expertise....

Hi and welcome to the site.

If it was me, I'd be carrying a Dexter "net knife"

Go look around on popular selling sites to see what's out there that Spyderco in H1 has to offer. The H1 steel is the only rust resistant steel that I'm aware of. Spyderco offers fixed and folder blades.

Rust resistant wouldn't be the wording I use, there is a lot of steels that are corrosion resistant (stainless steels to various degrees). H1 is rust proof or close to it.

Welcome :) i would reccomend you to really take a look at the atlantic salt by spyderco wont ruse and everything you need in a knife to cut ropes and yourself free from them too. Im not 100% but the assisted rescue knives by spyderco may come in a salt version too so you can have faster opening when it matters. I belive those two knife lines would be good for what you need. But these are folders. Hopefully you get the knife that suits you.

I see these as cheap as 140 shipped. If you need to possibly save your life by cutting tough rope/lines, you won't find anything better. Cheap insurance!

brother, I have a new benchmade dirve knife with hard plastic sheath. what i like is, wear on belt either side, rust and corrosion resistant. chisel tip, harder to stap your self or others, has a small gut hook, great for opening pallet plastic and grabing things with and is half serrated blade, meaning it will cut rope and small cable without rolling against the knife blade, lanyard hole for grabbing and securing to hand, sheath is waterproof, no mold or mildew. also thick. rough rubber scales. and yes a fixed blade. called model 110
