Hello, everyone. I'm Laura-- I live in Pittsburgh, PA and am a native of Houston, Tx. Been married 18 years and am into camping but not super roughing it. More cabins and nice large tents. I have all the camping gear, etc. and got into knives - like someone recently told me. They're like potato chips and yes, I've not been able to keep to just one or two. I like SAK and Spyderco quite a lot, but have a variety of blades both fixed and folding.

I'm here to learn from the forums more about the technology of knife making. I have no intention of making one myself, but just want to know more how they're made, and the variables of steel, heat treatment, craftsmanship, etc.

Thanks for having me. :p

Welcome to BFC Laura!!!!!!
Enjoy your stay, whatever knowledge you're seeking can be found here. Learn to navigate the various sub forums and you'll do fine. Spyderco has a sub forum just to name one. The knife makers section and the maintenance forums have a wealth of knowledge.

Here's links to my knife pictures. Normally I'd post them in here as they're hosted remotely, but it won't let me, so I'll just put the urls.

Wow!

You have a collection of knives there, lady.

I hope to post some of my knife pictures here one of these days.

I did get some pictures off to a friend in an email with my husband's help.

Take care!

Hey Laura,

Knife information is here in abundance as nowhere else - the craft, the making, the materials, the styles, the uses, the art, the innovation ... and so much more that it simple defies learning it all. And welcome to you to this amazing forum. The people contributing here make it the community it is. I am here only two years plus and am so appreciative of the good company and knowledge that I have enjoyed.

There are many sub-forums here where knives are shown to camp, slice and dice in cooking, build fires, survive, gut and filet ... along with a lot of other great equipment accessories and skills. If I wanted to enjoy a day hike, a wilderness stay or survive, urban or wild, this would be the forum to trust. Good morning coffee - this is the place!

Again, welcome,

Susan

Lellobeetle,

Please, I suggest no challenge in this, but why, on a primarily male forum, is an avatar "26%Bitch" of importance to you?

Susan, my avatar was not meant as a challenge or 'in-your-face' to any guys here. I took a stupid quiz many years ago and it calculated me at 26% "bitchiness" and I thought that was just funny - most everyone I know would peg me at about 4 or 5%. If you think that avatar will go over about as well as a lead balloon, then I'm happy to change it.

Hey Lellobeetle, I am the last person to challenge or change anything a member here holds important to them. Honestly. Sorry if I came off otherwise. It is just that trust is in the doing on this site, it is important to me especially, and If trust is to build, it starts with the mark you make, Then, as I am reminded frequently, pictures or it didn't happen. I sought no change to your avatar and I had only hoped to understand your symbol of what you felt represented you well ... and I expressed my opinion on that.

Hey, you have more blades than I could house or even possibly use and I look forward to many conversations about what you do with them. Please, choose your avatar to represent yourself as you see yourself and accept my apology for being intrusive.

Susan
