Whew! Just got back on the internet this morning after our manangement in their wisdom finally got their priorities sorted out. I could work again, and did I access information! Now this is to tell all you guys out there on kukri forum to take things easy if you're going on vacation, drive safely and rest up - and to experience a most blessed Christmas with your loved ones. I'll be going on leave from 13th December. I'll be trying to catch up on what has been said on the forum while I was gone, but that'll be a giant task - there's such a lot of knowledge in there!

(Ancient Gurkha saying: You can't have everything - where would you put it?)

Bruise, mine is and you just don't WANT to know what those two are up to!

Johan, good hearing from you and the same wishes for a Happy Holiday.

What on earth! Afrikaans on Bladeforum! How nice, Brenden! Thank you. And a Dutch line from eraaij! Dit was baie lekker om dit te lees. Die ander ouens gaan skeef kyk na hierdie boodskap! Yes, and thank you for all good wishes from you other guys scrabbling for your spell-checkers. May you get that outstanding kukri that you wanted from your wives and sweethearts in your Christmas sock.

I'll be going home in January !! "back to Durbs by the sea"

The weather in the North East of England is freezing, I felt like a mummy this morning. -4 degrees, Hell I'm used to 35 plus !!!

Anyway, seasons greetings to everyone !!

Brendan

I did think you might be from here, 'cause that one bit of Afrikaans you spun was so typical English-speaking South African - a sure giveaway! Myself, I enjoyed the weather in London when I was there. Too bad I wasn't in khuks at that time - I could have started my collection earlier! To think I actually visited the city of Winchester in Hampshire and didn't know the Gurkha Museum was there!

I knew you would say that but I thought I would try none the less !!

My afrikaans is very rusty and has been for some time but I can understand it perfectly. The same with Zulu, can understand it but not really talk it too well !!

Brendan

Geseende Kersfees en n gelukkige nuwe jaar aan almal!!

Alles van die beste!

Okay shame on me if my grammar was all wrong. I have not spoken the 'taal' in 6 years now.

Tot siens en lekker bly!

Howzit Boet !!

The Boys are coming out of the woodwork !! Who would have said !!

Brendan

We are a muli cultural and multi lingual forum. But as I often mention I'm still trying to figure our English.

Hau! Sawubona Nkosi Brenden! Siyabonga! When I studied Zulu from textbooks in my early years, I liked to try myself out on the local Zulus. Then I'd spin sentences like "Abafazi bashaya umphoyisa!" (Eng. "the women assault the policeman"), then they'd laugh at me and say my pronounciation was not correct at all. Nowadays when my students (who are black, between 19 - 45 years of age) are rowdy before class and I have to get their attention to start the lecture, I shout "Tula abantwana!" which means "Be quiet, little children!" This is an admonishment for them to settle down; at the same time a hint to them that they should be acting in a more mature manner.

Haai Boet Bok, goed om van jou te hoor, maat! Het jy ook 'n khukurie versameling? Het jy gehoor oom Bill van Himalayan Imports bêre sy khukuries onder sy bed?

Don't worry, Uncle. I merely told Bok about the khuks you entrust to the dust bunnies under your bed.

'Bout two months ago I was stricken with anguish 'cause I couldn't find a certain khuk (18" panna butta ang khola)I had been chopping wood with. I thought someone had stolen it due to my leaving it unattended on the site. For four weeks I had this gnawing fear that my cherished khuk was GONE! I searched and searched every nook and cranny where I MIGHT have put it. Eventually I found it stashed around the inside door jamb of my gun safe, totally outa sight. Whew! :D :D :D

I'm actually an alien on this forum. Khuks are just not my thing right now:eek:

I just wanted to stop in and say hi since there were so many South Africans in this thread.

I'm always amazed at Bill's post count. Damn that is a lot of posts!

Merry Christmas, boys!

Hi Greg & Golok! How nice! Well, there it is. Me, I'm off on vacation now, so regrettably for me I'll be signing off from the forum for a while. Hope to be back on 13 January. For those forumites who came in late to this thread, please go BTTT for my sincerest wishes to you for this season of joy! (In Sotho, one of the 11 languages spoken in South Africa, we say "Mahlohonolo a keresemese" = Merry Christmas!)

Ancient Gurkha proverb: "The things that come to those who are willing to wait are the things left behind by those who got there first".
:) ;) :D
