Hi Everyone,
I am brand new to this site as I was referred by a friend. I am looking for information on a somewhat unknown in this country. I spent many years in China working there, What I have is called a TYPE 84 SCOUT DAGGER it is current issue to chicom special forces units in the P.L.A. It is brand new and was in cosmoline when I got it but I have wiped it off though a while ago.It is mint condition in its own scabbard with matching numbers. I have some photos but they are so big they wont upload thru my email, but the following link is to a Chinese forum it is the only place I have been able to even find anything on it, it show the same dagger here is the link, http://bbs.tiexue.net/post_4445049_1.html Please if anyone can tell me any info it would be appreciated . I have seen other Chinese P.L.A. knives and bayonets and they are not as rare as this puppy. These daggers are not imported to this country or sold commercially anywhere, It is forbidden in the P.R.C. Please look at the pics on the link and if I can figure out how to post these pics of mine I would be happy to do so, So I hope someone can help me.
Thanks, xtos

You aren't allowed to ask values here unless you are a gold member or above. Sorry thems the rules. That being said, you can try auction sites or other rare knife shops online to see if they can help.

+1 what daveb068 said.

You have mail.

I hope that the dagger pictured here is not double-edged. Probably just a piercing tool with both edges unsharpened.

What is the handle/grip material?

first thanks for the advice. Im not sure what it is, my guess is something like micarta?................be well, xtos

BTW your right the edges are unsharpened its a sticker, an ugly thought for sure.......xtos

Thank you kindly for editing your original post xtos. Your kindness is much appreciated.

Does your knife have the sheath and frog the same as that pictured above?

Are there any markings shown on your knife, sheath or frog? Close photos of any markings would be interesting to me.

Is the blade highly polished or is it chromed?

A photo of it in your hand would give the knife scale, as would dimensions and weight.

it has the sheath + frog , it is numbered to the dagger both sheath + dagger share the numbers, the blade I don't know I would say polished but I don't know. I have pics but don't know how to upload them, I must wait for one of my kids to come here and do it for me.........xtos

The handle material on this one looks like bakelite to my sore eyes.

Notice cord cutter on one side of blade of this paratrooper knife. Sorta looks like an opener but it is sharpened.

I met Glen Mattox at his museum in Post Falls, Idaho a few weeks ago. He would love to see and talk about your PLA Scout knife. You would greatly enjoy seeing his incredible and extensive and well-organized collection which spans Bronze Age swords to modern day weaponry.

the paratrooper knife is called a TYPE 65, but the ones I have seen have a black handle like mine, this one looks different also the paras I've seen have silver colored metal like mine not gold, however I have seen one dagger that was gold colored metal, I think these are older models............xtos P.S. they also have a TYPE 84 SCOUT KNIFE THAT LOOKS LIKE MINE BUT HAS ONE SHARP EDGE
I have found out that the knife version may also be called a type65 and not the type84, not very sure.............xtos

Glen Mattox can be googled using his name and his town, Post Falls, Idaho as key words. He is profoundly capable with such killing knives and has the collection of such knives. Give him a buzz. Sorry that I cannot simply give you his contact info due to rules, as he is not a paid dealer. He has a collection that is not to be missed if you are in the West. Really.

I think the "gold" metal in my photos is poor color rendition of the camera and grease/patina.

Your knife is outstanding to behold. New, complete and nicely finished.

BTW, welcome to the forum. Enjoy yourself. I've had a ton of fun here and it is my pleasure to assist you. You are all right and this is the place for cutlery. Thank you for bringing it to the forum. Rare. I don't think that I have ever seen one before. I need more photos!

Oregon, thanks for all the support and advice, I have contacted Mr. Mattox and am awaiting his reply, again thank you, did you catch the photo of the two paras + the gold dagger? Be well.................xtos

after talking to one of my sons, he said the blade looks chrome to him not polished + the grip is like some hard resin or something like bakelite? anywho hope that helps with the description.
thanks..........xtos
