I guess it's about time I introduced myself. My name's Mark and I live in Oakland, CA. I've been interested in blacksmithing and knifemaking for a few years now. After taking a blacksmithing class, I built myself a forge, bought an anvil and have been messing around on occasion ever since.
My first (so far only) real knife project was about a year ago. I did everything myself, including heat treatment and sheath, though I understand now that I should probably have sent O-1 out for heat treat. I wish I'd found this forum beforehand. Oh well, it's my first and I'm happy enough with it that I'll keep it just as is.
As mentioned, it's O-1, brass and birch plywood held on by the shank of a worn drill bit the same size as the one used to drill the hole. Seems a great way to recycle those old bits too worn to sharpen. It's blade measures 3-1/2" tip to guard, just under 8-1/2" overall.
I look forward to talking to all you folks and occasionally picking your brains. It's a great forum and I've learned a lot already here.
Mark.
