hello everyone ,this is my first post, I am a union carpenter and have recently been involved in the cleanup and rescue effort at ground zero.I have taken these attacks very personally for many reasons the main one being that it was in my own back yard.Iwas born and raised just 20 blocks from ground zero and have spent many months working in the wtc's on and off and lost many friends.I am also a knife collector and enthusiast. As I watched the towers fall before my verry eyes I suspected this may be more than an accident,so I gathered or located as many family and friends as I could and tried to get them off the island or at least uptown away from the danger, then I got my gear and headed to the site.It all seems like a blur now but what I remember most is the feeling of brotherhood and unsefish bravery and concern for others I will never foget it.If any one has any questions about any thing please that happened down there feel free to ask god bless

Hi LLNYC, welcome to BF.
I'm also a native New Yorker though I live in NJ now. Work for the NY Daily News(printer, not a reporter) and have seen the destruction. I know what you mean when you say our own backyard, lived in the city for 22 years, they will pay for this.
Thanks to you and everybody else helping out there, we're in this together now. I keep thinking about my friend who got out from the 80th floor but can't shake the faces of all the firemen he passed going up as he got out. All of the rescue personnel are heroes.
It is awesome the way NYers pulled together last week. They can say whatever they want about us NYers, we've got heart!
Thanks,
Dave

Lifter,thanks for the welcome!
It seems like things are slowly getting back to normal.Although the rumors on the street of bomb threats and chem and bio attacks are endless, hope they are just rumors.I agree that new yorkers really responded in a possitive manner but I have to give credit to the people from out of state as well for their support.I met and worked with men from all over the u.s.a.By the way my post ended up in the strider forum because I lost my only strider along with many tools at ground zero,I left my bag with hundreds of others in a makeshift shanty and never saw it again.I know this sounds naive but I honestly don't beleive it was stolen, more than likely it was relocated to another spot to make room for tools and supplies. I had I.D. in the bag and with any luck it will be returned to me or my local union hall, you never know!Just a side note,I usually deal with Josh at triple aught, when I called he was away at a show.So Patrick at triple aught offered me pick of the litter when he gets in his new strider stock ,Patrick if you read this thanks again,it was very kind of you.

Welcome to the Bladeforums, friend. You will find great people here. I am glad you made it through the attacks in good shape.

LLNYC, that is great! And they say NY has no heart!
For some reason I had a feeling you would. It was in a protected area where usual street thieves couldn't get to it, they probably just moved it thinking you left it.
So, you gonna be at the show in 4 weeks?

Actually one of my union brothers that I was working with took both of our bags and put them in company's truck that we had both worked for in the past and told the driver to bring them to their shop in the bronx.
anyway he picked them up one week later and had some trouble getting in touch with me because of the telephone problems we were having here in lower manhattan, when I finally got his message I felt like I hit lotto!
This experience has taught me to keep my strider at my side at all times.
I must be honest, during the cleanup effort I had my busse basic 5 on my belt I felt it was better suited for the task at hand,my strider is a model bg,to me it is more of fighter than a chopper or pryer although it surely could have been used sucsesfully for the task.
I am almost embarrased to say that I did not want to use it unless I had to (I just got the damn thing and I love it!) but then again,I know myself and I won't be satisfied till I put it through hell, after all that's what it was built for.
anyway I will be at the show and look foward to handling and purchasing a strider or two or three or four or five or six or seven or...... you know what I mean!

You got your things back because there IS still honor in America!
And I am very pleased at Patrick's gesture as well!
