Went on a vacation trip with my family to the Peruvian Amazon jungle.

Price of an RC-3 : around $90
Using the RC3 to make two walking sticks for my 6 and 9 yr old daughters in no time: priceless.:)

Price of an RC3: around $90
Cutting yourself while engaged in said activity: lots of finger blood :p

Price of a Fenix LD10: around $50
Using it to look for tarantulas at night with your daughters: priceless
(Actually, I was holding the light. The guide was the one involved in the "looking for" part :o ).

Sorry -- no pictures yet. Wife has them in her camera.

The RC3 is one remarkable knife. I had it on me at all times, and I could barely notice it. If I were lucky enough to go an a similar trip again, I'd probably also take my RC5 or RC6 along, or a Bark River Bravo 1, for the deep jungle part of the trip.

Thanks for reading.

Good stuff man, What was the hunt for the tarantulas for? food , sport? ive just never heard of them being hunted.

Also get pics of the finger damage?

Thanks for reading Necroskull. I just corrected my posting -- we were "looking" for tarantulas, not hunting for them. Sorry for the confusion.

lol no problem, I was just trying to figure out what the hell you would do with one when found/killed.

Sounds great, looking foward to some pics if you get around to it.

Can't wait to see the pics! Every time I go back to my homeland of Trinidad (southern most island in the Caribbean, just off the coast of Venezuela) I always go on some type of outing/hike/etc. I love getting into the tropical rainforest to go hiking and exploring. The last few times we did it (my wife and I) we did it like "tourists" and hired guides to take us.
In 2003 (or was it 2002?) we did an overnight trip to the North coast to watch leatherback turtles coming in to lay eggs. We also did a boat tour of our local swamp called the Caroni Swamp, where Scarlet Ibis' come in to roost in the mangrove tops and breed. On my last trip back in 2005 we did another hike to the North Coast but this time visited a bunch of secluded beaches, small fishing villages, hidden waterfalls.

Nature is AWESOME! Having loved-ones to experience it with is PRICELESS!!!

Are you sitting in an internet cafe in Iquitos typing this?

Can't wait to see your pictures! Did you go on one of the "Eco-Tours"? I grew up in Peru but haven't been there in over 30 years, was planning on going this year to celebrate my 50th birthday and go on an Eco Tour, but things haven't worked out for it yet, maybe next year.

I'd love to take Jeff's survival course there, but I don't think I'd survive it, I'm in too bad of shape physically, got to lose a bunch of weight first!

Cool that you were able to take your family there!
