Greetings. My name is mike and I live in upstate New York. I have joined this forum for the vast wealth of information here. I currently have 2 knives, a crappy smith & wesson and a spyderco endura4 in vg-10. I plan on picking up a spyderco sharpmaker soon (good choice btw?) so I can learn to sharpen my knives well. I hope to expand my collection in the future, however being a teenager (16) without a job and a full AP/IB school schedule while doing 2 sports doesn't leave me much time for other things. I enjoy the outdoors even though I don't get to experience them very often (my family is not at all outdoorsy). I find metallurgy fascinating, as well as those of you who handmake your own knives; props to you, I hope I can learn to make my own someday too.

All in all, I think my stay here on bladeforums will be interesting, exciting, and informative.

Welcome! I'm pretty new here (as a poster, been lurking awhile now) as well but as it's seems you've already discovered, BF is absolutely awesome! About your Sharpmaker inquiry, I bought one today and I'm absolutely stunned at how amazing it is. It made me realize all of my knives that I thought were sharp, were not at all. It's the reason I'm up at 4 AM sharpening knives because I'm so excited about the results I'm getting that I'm sharpening my entire collection, although I admit I JUST put it away, I had to, but it's an incredible system that anyone can use. Anyway, I'm with you as far as being into metallurgy and different steels (I used to be a welder), and I also want to make my own knives someday. Not professionally or anything just as a hobby but I currently can't afford the equipment and don't have the space for it anyway as I just had my first kid 6 months ago, a boy :). I think your prediction on your stay here will be accurate. I can't get enough of this place. Glad you found us!

Welcome. Your Endura is going to love the Sharpmaker - as will other knives no doubt.

This site can be somewhat addicting and I bet you end up finding more time to spend here than you think.

Good luck with school, sports and sharp steel.
