Hey guys. I've been looking at Balisongs lately and I've decided that I like them. As a matter of fact, I like them a lot. I used to think, "What! Butterfly knives are crap. You can't even do that much with them. Not to mention that they're not REAL butterfly knives!" Luckily I've learned the error of my ways, and my mind has expanded. So know for the first step. I need to buy one. Allow me to stress need. I like the spearpoint and deep belly versions, but what should be my first? It seems as though the BM-45 is quite popular. Any help is much apprecieated.

Welcome to the obsession. I'm glad you finally woke-up and expanded your mind.

The BM-45 you mentioned is definitly a popular model, but good luck finding one (at a reasonable price anyway).

The BM-42 should be out soon, and that one is a beauty. I highly recommend it.

Other than that, the only things commercially available are, Jaguars and Bears.

~ Bear handles break for some reason. I've never had one that didn't, but you're more than welcome to find out for yourself.

~ Jaguars are good (and cheap), but the Pins will break on you. Fortunately, they're easy to fix. I have a "how to" on my site if you need it.

You can get a good price on the Jags here:

I recommend the DF-201, or similar model.

Good luck dude, and let us know how ya' make out.

Rock out. Thanks.

I've also seen some bali's that are supposedly handmade and from the phillipnes. Thaey have no latch. I'm positive that you know what I'm talking about seeing as how I followed the links from one of the many bali sites operated by you folks. I rather liked them. How would you rate those?
Where can I find a good spearpoint? I'm quite obsessed with this model, and I do belive that I must have one.

Thanks again.

if I was not mistaken Yasuhiro (forget his name sorry) the artist for D, was in Katsucon, Virgina a few months ago.. THe lines were long so I couldn't get his autograph!!

as for your inquiries, I have YET to see a Filipino Handmade with no latch. These knives are liked by collectors but in my opinion are not all that good daily users, but people have told me otherwise.

If you want a FHM spearpoint drop me an email and I can hook you up with one. BM45's are a little harder though, I suggest you get a 42 when they come out.

I have only one latchless FHM that was actually made without a latch. This is the only FHM that I've ever seen that is latchless, and I've seen hundereds.
