Grey or patina finish on stainless?

Does anyone know how to achieve a grey or patina finish on stainless steel, particularly S30V? I would like an easy way to do it like using household items or easily obtainable chemicals. I, of course, don't want to ruin the blade but I want it to be permanent.

Also I'm not necessarily looking for an even finish, a bit antique would be nice. Thanks for any help.

I don't know what you intend to do with this modification, but usually I use PCB etchant (you can get it at Radio Shack) to give a blade / tsuba antique finish.

The blade can looks rusty (actually it rusts on the outer layer of the steel) and you can remove it using Flitz / Simichrome / wet high grit sandpaper if you decide to do otherwise.

The solution (PCB etchant ad water) is 1:3 respectively.
