Title says it. Would my warranty be voided if I ground off the wave ? Don't feel the need for the wave feature. Thx

I believe Emerson is one of the few that allows modification while maintaining the warranty.

I advise against removing the wave. The knife never looks right after. What knife is it? EKI has waveless 7’s and 8’s in stock.

If changing the factory edge to a standard V edge will void the warranty then grinding off the wave definitely will.

I reground my old SOCFK when the blade chipped after a deployment. Brought the blade with me to BLADE show the next year to show it to Ernie, as he tends to enjoy hearing how his knives get used. He asked to see the knife (the regrind was definitely NOT pretty), put it behind the counter and handed me a new one.

Not sure about removing the wave, but EKI definitely stands behind their product. I would reach out and ask. Alternatively, sell the waved model and purchase a non-waved one.

I highly doubt that’s normal. He probably just made a lot more orders doing that at a show.

What type of work would be having done as warranty after you grind it off? Or are we talking about poor lock up or messed up pivot and washers?

If you're talking about having remorse and having a new blade then you will have to pay for the new blade. It happened to me when my mini 15 was lost for a year at camp and someone sharpening the blade beyond use. Cost me $150 for a new blade. By the way, the fine people at EKI are an absolute pleasure to work with when you knife is being worked on. The nicest customer care and most pleasant people to speak to. They truly take pride and love their products and want that knife back in your hand as quickly as possible.

Reading this thread has me no longer desiring an Emerson. I'm not a chisel edge fan but figured it's not that big a deal to throw it on the Tormek. But I guess it is a big deal. Lame.

They have a sharpening service that they offer. I know for a fact that if you send the blade in for "resharpening" they return the factory edge for free. So I'm not sure where they would draw the line on the edge.

You are correct. They do "encourage" certain modifications to make the knife your own. They are even one of the only companies that purpose built the knife to be taken apart by the end user. Unlike companies like Hogue who original warranty was voided if you even took the pivot out. EKI even sells custom replacement parts on the site to customize your knife and make it your own.
