Just purchased a granfors Bruks scandanavian forest axe. One of the grinds is longer than the other. I was wondering if this is normal or a defect? Thanks Matthew

I don’t know if you can see the difference but one of the grinds is deeper than the other. Looking down the edge there not even but I can’t get a good picture of that it just seems that they should be even on both sides

The edge is just a little off looking down the edge to the end of the handle but the grind marks go further back on one side than the other. Since ther so exspensive I don’t want to settle for what I get unless it’s right

I would agree. If the angle is in line with the eye and haft you're probably okay. If the angle is pointing to the left or right I'd be sending it back. You deserve to get what you paid for buying new. Heck, if you're worried about it send it back for a better example. Hold them to the prices they command, I think is reasonable.

It would be nice to see photos.

If one cheek is shaped different then the other then the grind may correct that little forging error. If the axe was forged symmetrically then it should be ground symmetrically. So the uneven grind could be fixing a problem or creating a problem.

I've said it several times before that the shape of the grind is determined by the shape of the cheeks and the use of the axe - at least, the shape of a good grind is thus. A poor grind may have any shape.
