Grinder attachment storage racks?

New workbench has nothing on it yet, so I can build my grinder attachment storage however I like. Can you guys show me pictures of your attachment storage, so I can steal your ideas?

Right now I have a flat platen, small wheel arm, integral/plunge fixture arm, 8" wheel arm, and surface grinder attachment.

I'm debating a traditional "tree" style on top of the bench, vs some kind of arrangement of tube slots under the bench.

I can send you a picture of my floor, but that wouldn't help! LOL. I have the attachments (12" contact wheel arm, small wheel assembly arm, work table arm) leaning up against cabinets next to my belt sander and the surface grinder attachment further away to try to keep it less dusty in the threads.

Right! That was my old system. On the floor under the bench. I may go with that again, but I'm kind of looking for cleaner/nicer options.

Yeah, less trip hazards or times when the arm bar falls over and hits my leg or foot...especially with the 2" square AmeriBrade steel bars! Those hurt!

I'm all for some ideas as well. My attachments are sitting on the workbench next to the grinder filled with dust. 🤷‍♂️

One is mounted on the KMG, and the other is a freestanding design. The freestanding one needed a wider base, I keep a dumbbell on it to keep it stable.

I built a smaller version of the floor mounted stand that SirSpice showed.
Be careful with layout so the attachments clear each other.

I have a better shot of this, but can't find it. It is welded up from 2.5" square tubing.
The Reeder has storage on the side of the rolling cart. It is just aluminum tubing. PVC would work with clamps holding it on. I have a good photo somewhere of it as well, but in this one you can see them on the side ( with no arms in them).

I don’t have a picture of mine but I just attached sections of 2”x2”x1/8” square tubing to the underside of the top of the bench the grinder is mounted on. That keeps everything close but still out of the way. I’m still working on a good way to hide my SGA.

I am building a steel and other items storage rack for the new forge made up of 12", 24", and 36" sections of 1", 2", 3", and 4" PVC pipe that will be packed vertically in a 12" long piece of 16" pipe The pipe is bolted to a 24X24" piece of thick aluminum with wheels mounted on the corners. The basic look will be like a set of pipe organ reeds, with the taller ones in the middle. I'll pour several inches of concrete in the pipe and insert the tubes until the pipe is packed solid with the tubes. All sorts of things can be stored in the vertical tubes besides steel bars - rebar, threaded rod, dowels, etc. -There is no reason it couldn't also store tool arms.

I built a smaller version with PVC tubes in a drywall bucket with 6" of concrete in the bottom. Worked OK for sitting in a corner, but was a bit unstable if filled with long stuff. I replaced that steel rack with a large milk can from the farm with two bags of concrete in the bottom (no PVC tubes). I put it on a rolling dolly. It worked fine but was no good for anything but bars longer than 36". I just stuck shorter stuff in a drywall bucket and dumped it out to find what I wanted.

A reminder for anyone who plans on making a steel storage rack of any type - use a white paint marker to label the steel on both sides of both ends!!! This is good practice for every piece of steel, other metal, or knife blade in your shop.

That’s kind of what I’m thinking. May even set them back so they don’t stick out. TBD.

I attached square tubing to the side of my bench for 3 attachments for one of my grinders and it works well, but i got a 2nd grinder and all that stuff is on the ground in the way...no room anywhere to do something similar to my other one, so in for ideas!

That’s the way mine are. The bench they’re on is in the middle of the room so I’ve got them to where they don’t stick out on either side. Also, I had a couple of pieces of scrap aluminum 2”x3”x 1/8” channel that I used for a few of the holders. That allows some side to side movement so I could fit things like my flat platen and 8” wheel side by side. I bought some cheap 2”x2”x1/8” hot rolled square channel after I ran out of aluminum. I mounted them on the “joists” of the bench top.

Don't forget ceiling. You can strap some sch80 PVC pipe on te ceiling and slide in the extra arms you use less often.

Someone here in ST has a setup with holes drilled in the workbench top. He droped his tool arms in the holes. He had 1/2" lag-screws in the wall studs that he cut the heads off of. He put his wheels on them. He has 1/2" holes drilled in other studs for tooling with a arbor stud. Hopefully someone will know who it was.
