I've found a Grizzly 1015 2x72 for $350 and a Wilton Square Wheel for $950. They look like they are in good shape.
Are these good deals?
Would you jump on one of these?

I'm relatively new to knife making. I currently use a 1HP Craftsman 2x42 but it is too fast and the platen stinks.
I've finished two and got an order for my third which is off to Paul Bos for heat treat.

Trouble is, like everything, money is the limiting factor. May have to sell some stuff to swing the Wilton that I wouldn't love to sell.

Here are some pictures of knife one and two to make this post more interesting.

Too close to retail for me, why not just buy new at that point? I'd say look at the Coote for a two wheel and the Bader for a three wheel. As far as I'm concerned there isn't a finer grinder than the Bader.

Many a well known knifemaker started with Grizzly....Just make sure you trash the stock platen and make a new one that's flat and rigid and keep some electrical tape on hand to give the tracking wheel a little extra crown in the center and you'll be just fine.

And in the mean time, add a piece of glass from Tracy Mickley, or a piece of ceramic tile, to your platen on the Craftsman. Makes a world of difference.

If you're considering buying that Griz, check to see if it's the older style with no vents or if it's the newer, vented motor. The vents will be under the base.

Have you seen the No Weld Grinder plans????? I built one that I welded together. If you get over to Mass. stop by my shop. I will be having a Hammer-In on April 16.;)
I also have a KMG and it is a excellent grinder.

Second vote for the NWG! very satisfying to use a machine you built.
