Okay,

Totally frustrated or maybe its a new learning curve??

Today I built a new work bench........ Primarily keeping my grinding height in mind I built the bench to these specs, well It may be a little high....

I was grinding on a work (table) and my grinder (to me) seemed low, around my waist height is where I'd lock in at...

I just set my grinder on my new station and It will be midway from my navel to the chest, I played phantom knife grinder and it just seems odd..

Do you think this could be a learning curve?? or is mid torso just to high??

really like to know about where you guys have your contact wheel come up to... I'm referring to mid wheel, or where the work rest is..

I'd like to know before I start setting everything on it.. WHEW !!:grumpy:

THANKS !!!!!

When grinding, the center of my contact wheel is slightly below my sternum.

I'd suggest getting a bench that is 36" tall; standard counter height., maybe lower if you are vertically challenged.

Put your grinder on it and see how it feels. Play around with the height by adding or subtracting 1" spacer blocks until you get the right height.

IIRC, the top of my bench is about 38" from the floor.

I set mine up so that my arms are at 90* when I am working on it. I am using a GIB with the multi platen so I sometimes have to be a little higher or lower depending on what part of the grinder I am using, but it isn't much more that a 1"-2" up or down movement. With my arms at 90* I find it easier to lock in and use my body to move across the belt.

I probably should have played with it on my old work table, but instead I just "ghost" scribed it on the wall.. You think I'd thought to do this before hand seeing I've been construction for a 100yrs.. got ahead of myself..

I think I'm at about 90*now but it seems odd to me, I'll have to go out and check and update..

Okay somewhat vertically challenged at 5'10 , my bench is at 38" I have a kmg and with the work rest on its at 46 1/2" to the rest..

Just measure my old table and its at 29" and was really low for me, wished I'd done the riser gig...

looks like 36" will be the ticket when I tried to lock in at 90 and i have to reach if I were to use the rest.......................

gimme my skil saw...... off with 2"
