Was gringing a couple blades to get ready for heat treat and happened to touch the belt while it was running...The bleeding has stopped so I guess I'll fire up the forge and heat treat before I do any more grinding.

Heheh. A working mans hands.
Right on the joint
You'll remember that one for a few decades :(

If it keeps bleeding you know what you have to do while the forge is still hot

Can we see the knife yet ? :D

That's a mere scratch!!!

MAN UP! ...and get back to work! :D :D

(kidding, of course)

Ouch!...did you get into the side of the belt?

OUCH! working on a small blade? It will happen with small ones. I've done it but not to that extent.

Try again, bro.... :)

kEEP IT COVERED AND USE NEOSPORIN AND IT WILL HEAL TWICE AS FAST. bELT CUT AND BURN AT THE SAME TIME AND NORMALLY TAKE FOREVER TO HEAL EXCEPT WHEN YOU TAKE CARE OF IT.

Good point argel55!!

I used to glue the pieces together with CA...or wrap it up with electrical tape..or duct tape...anything that I could find. Then get back to work.

I have found that if you take a few minutes to get it cleaned up and dressed...it can save you several days in healing. After my last visit to Doc Sawbones for his handy needle point, I assembled a small "cut Kit" to keep in the shop. I use peroxide for washing out the wound, then dissinfect it with an iodine wash....then neosporin and a bandage to keep it covered. From here, it is important to keep it clean and dry. Sometimes I use those little finger condoms, or latex gloves to keep it dry. A new bandage and wash daily.

As typical shop guys, we always have nicks, scrapes, burns and cuts to some extent.

Here's my point. If it is important for you to heal up ASAP ...then take care of it and it will heal much sooner.

Be safe!!

Some may laugh at me for saying this, but have you guys ever used Aloe Vera on cuts? You might be surprised what it will do for cuts and especially burns.

I'll try some as soon as I get the steel dust and crap off tonight.

nice one larry:D
that's too ragged for a micron side belt cut, those are cool
a speed super paper cut:D

my fix for it  :D
suck the crap out of it the dirt and chips and grinder dust and chew off the edges that will die anyway chuck it full of tripple antibi'o and keep it socked full with it and covered, if you let it dry out it won't bend with you and will crack,, I hate skin cracks..
yes keep it dry of water though..

if it does get infected put it under hot water as hot as to can stated it with a good finger if you heat the infected aria over 106 deg you'll kill the infection.

think about the woman with dish pan hands cut with knives and broken glass
you don't see them with infected cuts on the hands..

hey it works for me :D

Micron side belt cuts are my favorite! Seems like no matter what you do they start bleeding again, and OOOHHHH so stingy!

"Grinder meets finger"........grinder wins EVERY time.;)

Trouble with grind wounds is it burns the flesh too, and burns take longer to heal but it looks like that was a coarse belt which = less burn. Still, very unpleasant. I feel for you. I hate pain and get severely pissed off with myself everytime I bleed.
Get the grit out, keep it covered and heal soon. Take care.

Mike

I was hogin with a 40 grit. The hog thought it wone but a little Bondini from Wall Mart kept it closed till I finished. I'm just keepin it clean. Going to try the aloe when I go to bed and triple antibiotic when I go to work.

Larry

Aloe vera works very well for burns and it's one of the herbal remidies that has been scientifically studied ....BTW I know a knife maker who sends a small first aid kit with every knife !!!
