I came into a 1 hp, 3phase, 220 volt, 1750rpm moter from an old pedistal grinder. I was wondering if this would be adequit for use on a 2x72? Thanks.

You could use it, if you have 3phase power. Other than that, you will need a phase converter. That will probably cost more than a single phase motor. Sorry.:(

Yes, you can use that motor....however it needs to run on 3-phase power. So if you don't have that, then here is a solution. Use a Variable frequency drive. This will generate 3 pahse power from your 220V outlet...and it will give you a ton of programable options...such as reversing, speed control, motor protection, braking, and tons more.

I bought one last month and I'm incredibly impressed with performance. You can run your 1725 rpm motor faster...say 3000rpm. This gives you a very nice speed range. When you program the max current for your motor, the controller will automatically limit the power to the motor during heavy loads so you won't burn it up. You can also view/monitor several motor parameters such as current, and speed from the LED screen.

My experience with this Omron Drive 3G3JV: http://oeiweb.omron.com/oei/PDF/B28SBJVSERIES10300.pdf

The cost was about $290. One more note....they can be VERY intimidating to install if you are not comfortable with electric motor controls. The manual is over 200 pages!

I really can't say enough about how much I like mine!

Good luck,
Rob
