Grinder Motor Help Please

No. The specifications mention that it is recommended for brush type motors. An AC motor will typically not have brushes. If electronics are cost prohibitive, consider using old school methods for speed control in your build.

Do the math on the speeds you want to run at, and buy some step pulleys that put you in your operating range. Not everything needs a VFD.

That is for routers and will ruin your 2hp motor.

I would definitely look at a stepped pulley system. I'm certain it would be less costly than a VFD and almost as easy to change speeds. Use the BFC google search thingy, I would bet there's a couple threads around here on setting up a pulley system like that.

Thanks for the input!!! Pulleys will be a lot easier for sure

Not just in the initial costs; The life time of the equipment gets longer, the costs of repair are cheaper and significantly reduce headaches troubleshooting drives, the equipment is maintainable by people with basic level mechanical skills.

If you plan your build with a work rest bench, etc. in mind, you don't even really need to devise a motor tensioning set up, just a swing plate the motor mounts to and let gravity hold your belt tensioned. from below, a 2hp motor should put plenty of tension on that belt.
