Hey guys
So my 3 phase motor on my grinder just quit but still making a noise like it was working but shaft not turning
If I start spinning shaft with my hand it takes off but after few seconds stops dead and noise stops
It was an open motor I had here so used it and had opening at fan well covered with fine gauze to catch any dust and when I opened it it seemed dust free
I have no idea about electrics and no amp meter to start testing things
Sound familiar to anyone?
If so can they be repaired or need new motor? Enclosed this time
Any help be appreciated

After checking the fuses as suggested.

Two step repair:
1) Unplug everything and blow it out well with an air hose. See if that helps ... which I doubt.
2) Replace the motor with a new TEFC motor. This should fix the problem.

I don't know about your particular motor, but when I lost my first motor it would have cost more to repair than replace it.
Unless it's something really simple you'll be money ahead to replace it.

Done the vacuuming trick and nothing
Where are the fuses on a motor?
I opened the box on top of motor where I wired it in and I see 3 metal strips between wires, are they fuses?

No..................On that strips you can use multy metar to check motor ,when power is OFF ! You need to check fuses in your main table with fuses for house .......

Your question tells me you need to step away from the motor and get someone who knows electricity to check it out.

There are no fuses in the motor.
The fuses on the three phase legs are in the VFD. Also check the power fuses on the incoming single phase line inside the VFD.
Also, check the breaker/s on the wall fuse box. Sometimes a 220 circuit ison two separate breakers.

Hi is in Ireland , don t they use three phase/380V/ just like rest of EU ?
Stacy is right ,find someone who know what he is doing..............it can be deadly dangerous playing with power like that .....

I'm assuming the motor shaft still turns freely with no power applied? Sounds like you may have lost a phase. A 3 phase motor can still run on 2 phases, though not as well, and often required the "manual start". Sometimes it's as simple as a loose connection, but it could be a bad winding, broken wire, or an issue with the VFD

Somebody with a meter should be able to "ring" the motor and make sure one of the windings didn't give out. Checking the power supplied FROM the VFD is a little bit tricky, as not all multi-meters will read the output correctly due to the nature of the wave being generated.

Personally, I'd replace it with a TEFC motor and (if it's an open framed VFD) make sure the VFD is properly protected, and call it a day.
