Could someone please chime in with suggestions for an online retailer that sells motors at a great price?
I was tinkering around with the idea of just purchasing a Kalamazoo small belt grinder with motor, etc. The 1x42 or the 2x48 model (which one?) but then I started to consider other things. Possibly an assembly w/o motor like the Coote. So, I would need a motor, pulleys, etc. But, now the price starts climbing. That's why I would have to find a motor at a great price. I would greatly appreciate your input.
Price DOES matter :(

Thanks so much!

Try flea markets, yard sales,or that auction site. I'd strongly recommend
sticking with domestic motors though. I have 20-40 year old US made motors
still going strong ..!

I found a good motor I plan to use later on a broken belt sander I had lying around. Might be worth your while to look into broken tools that still have a good motor.

Hi, I was looking for a motor earlier this year to power a 9 inch disc with a variable frequency drive that allows the motor to reverse and also run run at variable speed. I found by reading that 230 volt 3 phase motors were the cheapest if you have a drive to convert the voltage to 120volt single phase. 3/4 Hp and 1 hp motors were about the same price. I did a yahoo and a google sdearch for motor suppliers and found one at the time that would sell me a 1 hp 230 volt motor that was totally enclosed and fan cooled for about $100 including shipping. You have to look and also have to specify that the motor is reversible. If you don't need a drive to run the motor then look for a single phase 120 volt but try to buy a TEFC (totally enclosed...) motor. Buying a used motor off ebay is good too but try to get one that has a label on it showing how to wire it. Most big cities have an industrial section with a motor shop that will sell reconditioned motors and help you buy the right one. They last so long that a used motor is fine for most jobs. Look on line for a motor supplier in your town or a larger town nearby.

Automationdirect.com They are imported but mine has worked out fine. Good price, great customer service.

I have purchased two different 2hp DC Baldor motors, each for well under $200 . . . and also the needed DC controllers for less than $100 each on E-Bay. One of the motors even came with a feedback tachometer worth about $2500 new. If you know what you are looking for, and have some patience, you can buy great motors for really cheap on Ebay.

I have purchased several from ebay. I got 2 3ph wash down motors delivered for $150, one was 1 hp and the other 1.5. Also got a 2hp for $100 and a 5hp delivered for $150. If you are looking for 3ph that is the way to go. Just make sure they have a doa warranty.. (though I have never gotten a doa motor)
