I need a grinder guys, I don't have enough for a KMG with the US/CAD funds conversion, shipping will be $195(US) plus whatever they tack on to the price at the border. That's well over $1000 that I don't have right now, and by the looks of things will not have for a long time to come....then add to that the motor....

I'm working with $600-700(CAD) that is being loaned to me.
I'd like to get something that uses 2x72 belts just for the grit selection, and if possible a 10" wheel.

I know that it seems like I'm asking a lot for the money.

If anyone has an old grinder they are looking to sell or they know of one, please let me know.

It's been less than a week w/o my old one and I'm already going nuts

TIA Steve.

It was one of those 4x36" + disc sanders, it was a loaner from my father, we got into a fight and he played the "I want all my stuff back then!" card  :D

Long story over something stupid, it happens about every 6 months, I think we're just too much alike and way too hard headed to get along.

Anyway, the 4x36 modded into a 2x36 just wasn't cutting it anymore, I need to step it up a notch and hopefully be able to grind a blade in less than 4-5 hours! lol ;)

I was thinking about the Coote too, but then those awful shipping charges would come into affect again.

I emailed him anyway to see what the total will come to... keeping my fingers crossed :p

Coote is in Washington state and to ship to Michigan only cost me $35 or so. You can try eBay, too, but most of the 2x72's are not knifemaking grinders so you have to do some stuff to get them to do what you want. The Coote machine is very nice and well worth the money.

there is a canadian that builds belt grinders I cain't recall the name at the moment. anybody else?

Check ou Downie Knives. I'm not sure if the web address, but a search will bring it up. I am sure there is a Canadian grinder brand on there.

Does Grizzly Industrial have a store in Canada?

I don't believe so, last time I was searching for it, the site wouldn't even ship to Canada.

I have personally used Ed's grinders - he has a new model with a digital dial control to control rpm and the angle on everything is adjustable. Ed taught me how to make my first (and only so far) knife. His grinders are very well made and well worth the money. I "think" the adjustable grinders are around $1000 CAN

Hope this helps :D

Hi,
I'm in Kamloops BC and the president of our guild is making about ten grinders right now. they are awesome design and quality. He is cutting all the parts on his CNC. It is similar to the KMG but i think even better. He is making them with an 8" wheel but mine is going to have a 10" wheel. I think he might have one left from the ten he is making the rest are sold. Mine is out getting anodized right now.
His name is Knut Lie and you can contact him at http://www.suremak.com/contact.html

I hope he doesnt mind me giving out his number. :D

Thanks guys, I already picked up a small one to make due until another member is ready to sell his Coote, not sure if he wants to be mentioned or not so I'll leave him out.
