Hi folks, this is my first post here, glad to have found this place. Heres my situation. I am a beginning knifemaker in search of a better grinder. I have made about ten knives on a 1x42 rockwell belt sander, it's gotten me this far, but is by no stretch of the imagination a percision instrument. I long for a nice 2x72" grinder with a contact wheel. I have been saving up, but the 1000.00 mark is still far away. I am hoping to pick up a used Bader or Burr King or Wilton. Is there any hope of finding such?
I am also curious to hear about any other brands that I might have missed. I've seen some Kalamazoo machines. I heard somebody here mention a BEE (?). I also know about the Grizzly machine, and almost got one last week, but they can't tell me when they might actually get one in to sell me

Besides, the reports I've had on it aren't that great.
So, if anybody knows of any other brands to check out, or where I can lay hands on some used equipment, please let me know. I would be very greatful.
Thanks!

There's another grinder made in Canada ey.
It's made in Alberta in stead of Montreal.
It looks very very similar to a Wilton. The guy making it is Dennis --- forgot his last name. His web is cyberblade He also makes heat treat furnaces. Texas knifemakers has a grinder in their catalog that isn't too bad especially for the price.

i strongly suggest you wait and save up and get a variable speed grinder. I realize this will set you back a lot of money to start off with but in the long run you will save a lot of money on just belts. With a variable speed you will have better control over your grinding and as a result do a much better job. Believe me, it will be worth the wait. Boob
