I've emailed a couple of you good folks and still not had any luck finding a used grinder. I'm just getting started and hate to plunk down $1000+ on a good machine. If you know anyone who might be willing to sell a grinder please let me know.
Thanks,
Chuck

Chuck, sorry I couldn't help you! I even asked the folks on the knifelist and noone is selling used belt grinders. You might want to check out Ebay a couple times a week. There have been grinders one there once or twice.Hope ya find one! Michael

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!http://www.nebsnow.com/L6steel

Chuck,
"Occasionally" you will find a used grinder for sale from a knifemaker but usually, and not to sound morbid, they have to die first. Most of us here started making knives with files or a 4X36 Craftsman bench grinder! As Michael recommended, keep an eye on Ebay or since you live in Houston, give Jim or Lance a call at Texas Knifemaker's and see if they have heard of any used grinders. That is a very long shot though.
Have you considered making your own? A very good friend of mine built one for around $500. It is very smooth as well.

I heard Tom was going out of the knife business. He never did have much equipment, but maybe his old Square Wheel can get you through the first 20 or 30 years.

Don't let him overcharge you, even though it never has been used much.
