How would you grind a fuller, or blood groove, into an already finished flat sided bowie knife?
Its a big blade and I think it needs the groove to finish it off but I dont have a milling machine and am thinking I wont be able to do this and keep it looking nice.

I use cutting disk in angle grinder to make straight cut first where i want fuller .Then i use thick disk to make deep grove .Then i use carbide burr to make it round and then hand sand ....It come perfect but then i decide to extend tip side to follow curve on belly and make little mess .I never make correction on that part ...even after five years I can’t get rid of it....it s knife , it have perfect edge and I don t care about small imperfections which are not important how the knife will behave in use ....
Before fuller . . . this is Yakut knife

Good ideas, thank you. I can do what you suggest.
Your knife looks fine. The picture makes it look like the edge is only bevelled on one side. Is that so?

Yakut knives are traditionally flat on one side with a forged hollow in the middle similar to Japanese chisels and plane irons then beveled on the opposite side.

I think that Yakutsk people are very very smart....I have smaller version of this knife and it is pleasure to use it .....Yes , one side is convex grind other one is flat .You sharpen only from flat side. It is amazing how sharp they come after a few pull on sand paper on the glass....

Do you have small wheel attachment ?
I found some video for you to get idea...........
This is something complicated but seems to work

If you are doing it to learn or for fun go for it, otherwise I wouldn't consider it. It is really tough to do one on a mill with a rectangular unhardened piece of steel, forget that! Just trying to keep it real.

Very interesting videos, thank you. At the moment I am only considering this one knife, so making complicated jigs is not worth the effort. I dont have a small wheel sander, only a 4" wide belt sander, but I do have a stand for my disc cutter which would give me a stable base.
