maybe this sounds stupid, but as i was looking at this bladetech MLEK trainer, i was thinking thinking... how possible would it be to grind a bevel onto a trainer and sharpen it up? i know they put holes in it, but then again, look at the Spyderco S. i think it would make for a cool blade, perhaps even lighter than the 'normal' version. they always have different colored handles that you cant get with the normal sharp blade versions. what do you think?

I used to think about it when I started collecting, then realized that most companies do not harden trainers and often use less than "nice" steel because they were not meant to be sharpened.

I remember hearing about a guy who ground a Buck-Strider trainer into a blade. If I recall correctly it worked fine, and the blade was just as good as the normal version. However, this may be maker dependant. Looking at the blade tech MLEK selling for 130ish and being s30v I assume it'd be heat treated and good to go, but you might wana send blade tech an email and as them directly first before you waste your money.
