Grinding before or after heat treating??

Lots of makers determine by how thick there blanks are?

I grind post heat treating, but I don't worry about time. I do this for fun, if it takes me three times as long, I don't care.

I'm more worried about warpage, and creating stress risers.

I generally grind thin, Hard, high alloy blanks.

If you are using less than 5/32" id personally grind AFTER heat treating

Many grind nitro-v after HT. Not sure on 440C, never worked with that one personally.

I know it's common to do much of the primary grind pre-HT for steels not prone to warpage.
