Grinding Discs?

Anyone ever tried gluing those grinding discs like you use with a side grinder or air grinder onto a disc sander for heavy sanding/grinding?
I was thinking about trying it but thought I'd ask you nut cases first.

I don't think that would work as well as it looks. They grind really aggressively but they're really meant to cut with their edge. At least the ones on my dads side/angle grinder are kind of cup shaped. After you wear the edge down a certain amount to where they're kind of flat they glaze up really bad and don't cut very well.

Might not be too safe either. Normally those things run under a gaurd. On a disc it would be completely exposed and if a chunk came loose it could smack you pretty good. It might we worth a shot if you have a disc your not worried about, but definitely don't stand inline with the side of it.

I think you're right Matt. It's not a good idea.
I got to thinking and you could do some hogging on the belt grinder to start anyway. Just be careful not go too far and then clean up on the disc sander with coarse grit paper. I don't know why I come up with these screwy ideas.

I've done it and it works well if you get it to stick. I use spray contact cement and it holds everything on the grinder very well except those disc's.

For some reason they just don't want to stick and take off like a flying saucer as soon as you let up on the pressure. Does keep things from getting dull though!:D

I bought several HUNDRED 9" discs at an auction and have been passing them around. Yep, they are hard to glue on! I think the only way to insure them to stay on is to have a bolt and washer through the center of the disc plate and disc. They do work good, too. I have a thin 6" cutoff wheel mounted on a 1/2 HP motor that has been one of my most valuable shop tools, too. It is good for a touch grind on the side of the wheel, for small parts, and a million small chores. They resemble a stiff sanding disc and mount on the motor shaft. Nice thing, too, you can cut brass and everything else with them without a clogging problem with the 1750 speed and light handed pressure.
