grinding first sword

About to tackle grinding my first sword. I will use 1/4" 5160 bar stock, probably about 25" or so of blade by about 1.25" wide. It will be flat ground (I am no good at keeping my sabre or hollow grinds even).
I will try for a descent looking katana or sabre style meant to take full abuse.

Question: Should I grind it first and then heat it up and bend a curve in? Or, should I bend the curve first and then grind it?

(I will deal with having to build a longer quench tank after the grinding. I plan to fully harden and then draw back the spine.)

Any other comments and advice would be appreciated.

The curve in the blade was accomplished during the heat treat.you have to coat the spine with clay in varying layers to accomplish your hard edge and soft back.So I would say with the method you are using you will need to bend the blade before grinding...just my opinion,Bruce
