52100 and CPM 3V - both as hard as it gets to grind but looking good!

Ignore the puddles of oil and metal shards. :D

That's not a convex grind at the edges, just puddles of oil. (actually the top one has a convex tip but you know...) :D

Very cool, I dig seeing them in the middle of completion.

Is one of those gonna be a give-away knife?

Just playin' a man's gotta get paid! :D

I'm giving it away for a mere exchange of incredible knife for pieces of paper! I'm not even sure why! :D

The bottom ones look like they're on fire!!

So badass dude!

Thanks! That is the oxides I was telling you about, these came out way cool!

I think my sub-zero treatment brings out the colors even more than the norm... not really sure but they get ground off anyways.

Oh, are those grinds on the tangs for adhesion?

Great question! I was going to explain the tang grind as it is a relatively new thing for me to do.

The tang grind is a deep 1" radius and significantly lightens the knife without really compromising strength.

It also helps a lot with glue adhesion. The other holes do the same thing, lighten and provide a gap for the epoxy to bridge through. I'll also sandblast the handle for even better epoxy adhesion.

Some tangs are tapered too, I hollow grind the tang all the way to the butt and taper it until the butt grind disappears.

I like the lightened tang for several reasons...

weight in the middle of the knife feels right and keeps the knife in control easily

great balance and feel

when the knife is in a sheath it is not top heavy and sits very well

The tang grind is tricky and takes a while to do but I feel it is these extras that really make a difference between a custom and a regular knife!

These certainly a surprise . Made my Friday dude.

I decided to go old school for a while! With added new school improvements...

I'll be back on the folders and kitchen knives soon as well as loads of Ti... I wanted to go back to some familiar work before I take off to TX to see my Dad. :D

OOOOOH!....I like the middle one in the first pic.....and the one on the left side of it.

The knives on the left in the box look like one of those super cool desert paintings from the 70's! That is a complement BTW haha

Thanks! I'm keeping the patterns for both of those.

I'm pretty proud of them, the grinds came out just how I wanted them and I took the swedges to 600 grit!

Thanks! I almost want to keep them that way! They came out super clean from the oven.

Ah, thanks for the reply. That makes a bunch of sense. ;)

Thanks! I like talking knives. :D

I have been finishing up sheaths today so if I owe you a knife with sheath... it is getting completed today! They are ready for the final hand sanding of the edges and will be complete this afternoon.

I'm hoping to pre-shape my scales and get ready for glue-up tomorrow morning... or tonight if I'm really lucky!

That middle one in the first pic, is that based on the design I sent you? Looks like it could be. Great work dood.

Are those MY pocket fighters?
:D Could be! I have a couple ready too... just need pics!

That's the one! It's not quite the same knife but I think it will be cool, I can tell I will be making more! It is getting ivory paper micarta over black G10 scales, they look incredible!

I just got in from working on them all day. Everything (ground ones) is signed, the scales are pre-shaped and ready for glue-up! Tomorrow I'll go over the grinds one last time and glue them up.

I am doing myself no good by revisiting this thread. The last time I bought a knife was over a year ago. I'm developing the shakes D:

Sweet sauce bro! I've told you before, but my designs are fair game as is if you want to use them. You would do them more justice than i would for sure.
